As sunny days reappear and bright flashes of optimism reverberate around the globe, along comes London based producer Kempston Hardwick with a killer five track garage-house release on Lobster Theremin that is crying out to be played in the park over some beers. 

With a more UK-centred approach than his previous work on SITU Records, Kempston Hardwick has captured the ‘better days are coming’ energy and bottled it into four wicked cuts of subtle grooves and deep wobblers.

The early evening groove of ‘Mowbray Street’ bounces into the frame with its playful melodies and sunny aesthetic; bopping and swaying in the fading sunlight. The oxymoronic patterns of harsh and melodic clash on ‘Channel’ as day turns to night; jackin’ rhythms and repetitive pads that create a real sense of inner-groove. 

Big breaks and carnival flavour are the orders of the day on ‘Provoke 1ddy’ as Kempston flexes his versatility, before arriving at ‘Have You Stopped It’ - a wobbling melter that takes the very best of contemporary bassline and blends it with the fun energy of the transatlantic Vancouver and Montreal crews for some proper euphoric screwface moments.

Wrapping things up is the electro-laced 2-step of ‘Apologies to 25’ - a cut of distorted garage beamed from disco robots on a not-so-distant galaxy. Kempston Harwick’s Mowbray Street EP might be the artist's most complete work yet, and it couldn’t be arriving at a better moment.

Two of the UK’s finest dance producers tackle DJ Q and Hans Glader’s anthemic single ‘Thief in the Night’.

The latest in a series of new DJ Q releases on Local Action that will continue throughout 2021, ‘Thief in the Night’ hasn’t stopped moving since its February release, with at least one BBC Radio 1 play per week since it dropped. 

On this remix package, salute brings out the pianos and sets his sights to the stratosphere, while Al Wootton takes things down with his instantly recognisable combination of expert UKG drums and live dubbed out effects.

Transitioning from the successful 2 Years EP (O Sótão Records, 2023), Tiago Fonseca became an up and coming Producer and DJ based between Lisbon and Porto. On the back of gigs at some of the best clubs in the country, he also transitions from Tiago A.F. to TGZ (sounding Tigz) as his moniker for what’s to come ahead. Long Shape, his latest project, is O Sótão’s first vinyl release, and the first to be delivered with higher standards of professionalism. Learning the trade, the processes, the timeframes, the costs, and having just completed 10 years of existence. A good time to go a bit deeper.

In the summer, Tiago sent me a golden playlist of unfinished projects for a second opinion. The idea for a new record started there, and from the bunch we handpicked a selection that ended up making really a lot of sense for us. We were looking for wet deepness and eternal warm ups, pulling up the fader slowly. An invitation to leave our mental capsules and divert attention towards a seductive bassline cliff-hanging a dream. Progressiveness and jazz. Long shapes and melodies in the last frontier between nostalgia and hope.

To help, we invited Miguel Tenreiro (a.k.a. Gazpa) to master the tracks, with him adding a smooth-extra-delicious pump on the beautiful original elements. Miguel also picked up the title-track for a remix treatment, breaking up the tempo with a hip-hop-electronica finale, sprinkled by a guitar solo from Zé Nuno - another great musician stemming from Mr. Bean’s bar, where we held a residency for the past year.

Long Shape will drop on March 21st. Vinyl might be only available a bit later. It will be a landmark moment for us, being Tiago’s most complete work to date, and a better representation of his rich musical influences, expanding it, as we speak, to another level. It’s also been 10 years for O Sótão, so there’s that too. To sum up, I’m just very glad that Long Shape sounds exactly where we would like to be after all this time, with a quick image of a nite-lit skyscraper cutting into a couple of rocks being dropped in the coolest whiskey glass, and the people warming up to a dream.

Who's that guy nerding behind a laptop in a French cafe? It might be https://soundcloud.com/gal-tsadok-hai, working on new beats. Since the Dutch producer moved to Montmartre (Paris), he not only shook up his life but also his modus operandi. While enjoying a cafe-au-lait and ignoring the white noise around him, he worked on his new Perot EP.

A new life, a new sound. So, Tsadok-Hai decided to throw all 4x4 beats overboard. Even on Mangue, a track that starts out as a decent enough dark techno track, only to derail into a breakbeat frenzy towards the end. The other four tracks are equally adventurous and playful, with wildly zigzagging beats, rubbery congo's and rattling drums. Like Squarepusher being locked up with The Gaslamp Killer and Mr. Oizo. A great EP which takes Tsadok-Hai’s sound in exciting new directions.
