Over the years, Oliver Koletzki has continuously cited Berlin as a point of reference and, more importantly, a source of inspiration. Two of his albums – Großstadtmärchen and Großstadtmärchen 2 – have been a direct ode to the capital. Friedrichshain, one of Berlin’s vibrant districts, has always held a special place in Oliver’s heat. This is where he started out when he first moved to the city, and this is where he lives now. Moreover, the Stil vor Talent HQ is situated in the centre of the bustling Kiez. 

So is Schneeweiss, one of Friedrichhain’s best and most loved restaurants. Over the course of eight years, the stylish eatery has impressed many a Berlin foodie with its contemporary take on alpine cuisine and attention to detail. Music is part of the experience here, which is no surprise due to one of the owners’ extensive background in Berlin’s club scene of the early days. Pairing striking award-winning interior design with a homely laid-back atmosphere, Schneeweiss welcomes everyone with open arms: Kiez locals and celebrities, students and businessmen, hipsters and families – all can be found here, Oliver Koletzki among them. 

Thus, after many a late-night label dinner an idea slowly formed. Why not join forces and collaborate on a compilation that represents both, Oliver Koletzki’s and Schneeweiss’ taste? Compiled specifically with the restaurant in mind, SVT120 convinces as a tasty treat for the music connoisseur and a musical treat for the culinary aficionado.

Even though 2013 saw Tom and Zip, the duo better known as Homework, take over their beloved home turf of the Netherlands and the rest of Europe – playing an insane amount of summer festivals and club gigs – it also saw the two hit a bit of a dry patch production wise. Thankfully that period is behind them and they’re back on Exploited with a vengeance. 

The two tracks on this new single, although very different in nature, can best be defined as an excursion into moody yet poppy territory. A path the musical chameleons have not previously explored. The first track, ‘The Way I See It’, has been described by the twosome as an ode to their affinity for 80’s synth pop from the likes of Depeche Mode, The Human League and The Cure. Both a slow burner and a unquestionable club track the first real ‘song’ from the two Dutchmen features lyrics and vocals by an up and coming talent from Holland, Bea Anubis, whose lush singing voice can also be heard on Alex Barck’s (Jazzanova) 2013 solo album Reunion. 

‘The Grind’, the down tempo 78BPM B-side, goes hand in hand with it’s A-side counterpart but is nonetheless in an entirely different ball park. It’s the answer to what would happen if an East Coast hip-hop producer shook hands with an analog synth-obsessed lunatic. At times repressed and introverted it’s an intimate jam full of small details that infuses the listener with a sense of summery yet melancholic nostalgia. A theme Homework has been known to indulge in. 

Exploited is proud to see the prodigal sons return to the imprint and to the form we’ve come to expect from them.

For the sophomore installment of our various artists series ‘Watergate Affairs’, we bring you four searing cuts of dance floor mania from Ruede Hagelstein, Adana Twins, Marco Resmann and Tiefschwarz.

Kicking it off is Ruede’s timeless, future classic; ‘Flash Balls’. At nearly eleven minutes, it’s a masterfully crafted tune reminiscent of classic Carl Craig and the best things that happen when Berlin meets Detroit. Adana Twins ‘Etah’ follows with a lush palette of sonics dispersed over an incredibly infectious groove emanating in a gorgeous ballad that will surely induce those magic moments. Next up is Resmann’s ‘Mobius’, a contagious groover that delicately balances the ability to fit any time or setting, day or night from open airs to club lights. Completing the compilation is Tiefschwarz with their enchanting symphony; ‘Backyard’ whose opulent shimmers and warm low end administer a superb trip into the ethereal. We hope you enjoy!
