Since 1991, Tresor has provided a home for artists to develop their ideas for advanced new sounds and broadcast them to the world. The pioneers that first traversed the Detroit-Berlin connection and were at the forefront of a new cultural movement gave to Tresor its original and continuing mission: community, resistance and reshaping the world to come.

The Tresor 30 compilation represents a major landmark in this continuing history of electronic music. This unique collection of music profiles some of the artists that gave the previous three decades of Tresor its sound and foundation, but it also casts its gaze forward. Writing new postcards from the future, this collection brings new artists who maintain a connection to that original mission to the fore, charting ways in which this ethos can continue to build bridges and break walls in the next 30 years.

Bringing together 52 essential tracks - both classics and exclusive commissions - each of the 12 records in this box-set charts a unique line of flight from those artists that helped define the shape of this new music to those who continue to pattern its landscape further.

“He/His/Him” – an original monodrama by Wojciech Wójcik. It is a bold, performative story about masculinity – personal experiences, observations, and conversations that together create an emotional, physical, and musical portrait of the modern man.

What do men not talk about? What defines true masculinity? And is there really a crisis of masculinity—or not?
These are the questions Wojciech Wójcik tackles in his monodrama, breaking stereotypes and giving voice to those who are immersed in it—by birth or by choice. The performance is a mosaic of real statements and creative impressions, enriched with dynamic choreography and original music by chytkowsky

6 chytkowsky - who am I (expectations) - HE HIS HIM 2025

Ever since their initial singles were released in the mid-1990s and became international calling cards for the Chain Reaction label, the Porter Ricks duo of Thomas Köner and Andy Mellwig have represented that crucible point in which techno music leaked into new social environments and became the background music for cutting-edge cultural critique. Their submerged “scuba” sound, presented in dark tone colors and reverberating to infinity, is now instantly identifiable as one of the ‘soundmarks’ of Berlin club culture. Just as importantly, it is still a palpable aftershock of a pre-millenial genre explosion that saw deep dub, shimmering post-rock, abstract hip-hop and art-damaged noise all drinking from the same well of inspiration. Together with restless international collaborators such as Kevin Martin, and theoretical thinktanks such as the Mille Plateaux label, Mellwig and Köner were key players in a larger decentralized rebellion against musical monoculture. Their stated desire to make unexpected timbral shifts as important to their compositions as rhythm, along with their indifference to concerns like public image, set up a situation that critic Kodwo Eshun picked up on early on (“no pictures or interviews act as shock absorbers…the full force of their inexplicable sounds falls around your ears.”)

For proof of Porter Ricks’ enduring legacy, look no further than the fact that “dub techno” is now a stylistic movement that has expanded far beyond the confines of Berlin and the Basic Channel / Chain Reaction label alliance (where Mellwig’s mastering skills also played a starring role). Lurid traces of PR’s aesthetic can now be found in the work of producers like Andy Stott and Miles Whittaker, showing the potential for the duo’s unique ‘aquatic’ techniques to be applied to a variety of different musical contexts. However, this does present Porter Ricks with the unique challenge of reasserting themselves in a scene that has mastered their sonic vocabulary so well, the originals themselves run the risk of sounding like imitators…are they up to the task?

Their new LP on Tresor, Anguilla Electrica, may be their first full-length release in seventeen full years, but it radiates with confidence and with a clarity and intensity rarely seen in a world so oversaturated with communications noise. It’s made clear at once that it’s a continuation of a sonic ideal rather than a tribute to what has already been achieved: the duo is not idly sitting back while their newer acolytes do their talking for them. From the outset, the title track “Anguilla Electrica” slithers to life with bouncing and panning sequences that cover the full frequency spectrum and provide a perfect update on Porter Ricks’ exploration of animalistic movement and perception. Elsewhere, pieces such as “Scuba Rondo” also reanimate the classic Porter Ricks sound in striking fashion, playfully setting up a virtual sonic kitchen in which gelatinous sound phrases blend with steamy hisses and distinct crackling. In other places, like “Port of Tangency” and “Shoal Beat,” the duo once again demonstrates just how effortlessly catchy the conversational tension between lockstep groove and slightly unhinged, unidentifiable sound material can be.

This new LP is well worth the wait and is a life-affirming one in an uncertain and perilous time, drowning out daily anxieties like a rush of incoming surf - yet it is far more invigorating than relaxing. True to the Porter Ricks tradition, it will be just as exciting hearing this music as it will be to experience what new cultural mutations it leaves in its wake

Relentless melodies, accompanied with shadowy stabs follow the analogue kick drums arrays. Tracks like “Loosing and Illusion” with its deep atmosphere and it’s percussive baselines, alongside “Fishpig” ’s vocoder morphed vocal processing showcase the prolific inspirations Outermost’s influences piece together in this release.

From the very first track, it’s clear that Abby Echiverri’s debut, the “Ab Initio” EP is something different and rare: a polished and fresh interpretation of electronic music that incorporates classic electro squelches with intricate broken beats and expansive synthesizer zone-outs. Although this is her first EP, Abby has extensive history as a musician, sound engineer, DJ and VJ. Her current trajectory started early in childhood when she was classically trained in violin, flute, piano and vocals, cementing music as a part of her daily life. In high school she picked up turntables and began collecting records, eventually moving to NYC to study recording engineering and perform in post-punk bands, and became a regular at Wierd and The Bunker at a very young age. Since then, Echiverri has devoted her professional hours to engineering, maintaining, and manufacturing audio equipment for studios and clubs around the world. 

This record’s name “Ab Initio” means “from the beginning” or “from first principles”, invoking a propulsive leap into the future and also perhaps including an element of the eponymous. When we asked her to tell us more about the process of creating these hardware-based jams, Abby explained: “It all stems from my own experiences on the dancefloor and wanting to recreate that for other people. I want to make music that rewires the brain: music that is challenging, yet groovy... repetitive, yet evolving. An aural psychedelic. It's a lofty goal - I'm still working on it.” If Ab Initio is one of her first steps towards that goal then we can’t wait to see what happens next.

The album was recorded in “one or two takes” using both Moog and modular synths in the Interdimensional Laboratories in Detroit.

Ryan James Ford’s productions are rarely anything other than inspired. Through regular releases on Marcel Dettmann Records, Answer Code Request and his own SHUT imprint, Ford has proved to be an exciting producer, capable of mangling sounds and styles to fit his wide-ranging musical vision.
The Berlin-based Canadian arrives on Happy Skull with a label debut that dramatically emphasizes the point. While each of the four tracks features audible nods to a wealth of influences and inspirations, the bold individuality of the resultant cuts all but renders such comparisons redundant.
For example, EP opener “Ormst Kaban”, whose wild, crashing, off-grid breakbeats and twisted, foreboding electronics aggressively spar with glacial chords and icy textures. The 16 bit arpeggio lines of 'Hobrv Kegdit' are underpinned by powerful sub-bass tones and industrial drum-breaks that merge to create a densely sprawling mass of dance floor melancholia.
This pattern continues throughout the EP, with “Slown Ridel” and “Nos Ummi” balancing skittish, noise-seeped percussion with the dreamy, glassy-eyed swell of classic ambient and pioneering early ‘90s IDM.

This is a release against the violation of human rights and abuse of the Chilean people by the government and the military police army.
This is the call to a social change from a group of artists united in a humanitarian cause. This is the shout of strength and support from the global techno music community.

La furia del Pueblo is an album that we have been working on for almost two months in which artists from different places of the world have collaborated, to demonstrate the union and support that is being given to the people from Chile, who has been fighting and demanding dignity; but at the same time being vilely repressed by military and armed police that has abused and violated human rights in countless occasions, the current government and particularly President Sebastian Piñera being the absolute culprit of everything that has been happening.
This release aims to make all this go out to the world and that people know that we are united and support this type of instances, that we are not only producers or djs thinking about parties, drugs and excesses as they want to make us see the media normally.
Adicionally the money left by the sales in digital format of these tracks will be given to people in a street situation in the form of food and shelter, since they are the most unprotected, because they have absolutely no help from anyone. A few years ago we worked with an Ong and we do not like how they work, they were very transparent, so we will do this work with my family and friends, as we have done since the movement started, there are many ways to help and this It can be one more.
It is time to give a furious shout through techno music and show that we are just parties and drugs as they usually stigmatize us. La Furia del Pueblo is a shout of strength and support from several of the most influential artists of techno music yesterday and today managed and runned by Utch Records and will be available on December 30 in our bandcamp and from January 17, 2020 on all digital platforms.
