Q&A with nightwork:

1. What inspires you to mix/make music?
I draw a lot of inspo from mysticism, nature, anime, and poetry. I’m a bit of a hermit so I’m often most inspired when I’m out hiking solo or driving alone at night. That being said I do have a very special, encouraging circle of friends, so they’re always a source of inspo too.

2. Are you looking forward to anything in 2021 in regards to your creative activities?
I’m planning on making a video or two for tracks off my latest EP, so that’ll hopefully be out soon. I have ideas brewing for new tracks and mixes too. Overall though my focus for 2021 is to get myself out there more and take myself a bit more seriously as an artist.

'Bizarre' could well be the word to sum up the music of Kane West, the PC Music associate. 

No doubt you've all heard Tiga vs Audion's 'Let's Go Dancing', but have you heard West's remix? It's full of twangs, shrieking whistles and the occasional "NO!" when the title's vocal rings out. The disobedience in that almost resembles his attitude towards making music, in terms of his wacky, club-focused productions like 'Western Beats' and Turbo Recordings track 'Mexicans'.

Retro Glitch

Following on from a monumental 2015, label co-head Billy Kenny is back with more of his hard-to-decipher productions, slamming down his double-header Ron Dat / Work Me. Sacha Robotti puts in some man-hours to rerub the backside, tweaking the tune enough to give it a pungent kick. It’ll definitely give you a bad case of the jiggles.

"One of the things that drew us to the original track was that it had this John Hughes vibe to it -- a director who's movies and soundtracks have always been an inspiration for us.

So we riffed on that feeling by adding some classic 80s drum processing techniques and we threw in a big dramatic guitar solo.  At the same time it's got a much more modern groove to it so the hope is to bridge the gap between John Hughes and today's dancefloors."

Infinite Machine are enjoying a purple patch in 2016 but their next release is perhaps their best yet: the debut EP from rising Berlin artist Ziúr. Today we’re premiering the title track from that EP, an industrial wrecking ball that flirts with Lorenzo Senni style pointillistic trance and straightforward four to the floor between assymetric slabs of rhythm ’n’ noise. There are similarities with Toxe’s piston-powered debut release Muscle Memory, but where that release had a playful, springy quality, this is closer to the violence of Rabit’s Communion, stopping just short of the anxiety-inducing wrong-footing of that album to provide some dance floor ‘friendly’ stability before sweeping the rug from beneath your feet again. It remains to be seen how the club will react to such electric intensity, but the track - and EP as a whole - are a welcome shock to an increasingly memetic system. No mere recombination of existing tropes, Ziúr’s music is absolutely bursting with new ideas; ideas that it appears she is unwilling to water down. We anticipate big, big things.
