Sann Odea proudly presents ‘Ithomiines,’ the first various artist LP and an immersive dive into the realm of experimental electronic music and narrative soundscapes.

Drawing inspiration from the mesmerizing beauty of the Ithomiini butterflies, renowned for their delicate glass-like wings and intricate patterns, this compilation brings together 12 artists. It explores the concept of musical metamorphosis, mirroring the transformative journeys undertaken by these butterflies. Each track on the compilation is meticulously crafted, inviting you to connect with its unfolding story, building tension, and evoking emotions.

The LP features familiar faces such as Modo Mero, Teqmun, and Sann Odea co-founder Kendu Bari, alongside nine new artists including Guenter Råler, Zero Crossing Point, Beatrice M., and co-founder Yb3L, to name a few. Cotton Pills - Fixed Karma II

March 2019, Iceland, Catartsis & Ida traverse vast expanses of snow and ice. All ears with microphones in hand, they fade in a multitude of topographies guided by the acoustic subtleties of a melting world. "Ice Collage" lures us into an Arctic fog swollen by the uncanny impression of geo-presences. Recordings of thawing landscapes, lithic crumblings, and breathing geothermal soils animate the 3 tracks of the EP into a blend of bass and ambient music.

‘Metal Form Suite’ is a culmination of the sounds that inspire the label in its endeavour to create scaled events with underground and DIY tendencies. Through this compilation and curation, General Merchant is showcasing the range of sounds that you may expect to hear at one of their warehouse parties.

General Merchant acknowledges that it operates on stolen land, belonging to the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora Nation, and we pay our respects to Aboriginal elders past, present and emerging.

Kop-Z first heard the term "A Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamic System" in a book he found in an old junk shop in Manchester city centre for 2 quid. Its describes humans as systems constantly battling the entropy and world’s challenges around us in order to survive:

"Whilst this is true, we are also systems that work together. We think, learn, grow, and create beautiful things like art and music. I love this contrast. There are many similar contrasts in the spaces we inhabit: day and night, love and hate, going to bed at 9 p.m. or 9 a.m.”

He articulates this contrast by juxtaposing vignettes of human life with unrelentingly kinetic probability programming systems. Autobiographical field recordings, manually looped vinyl and childhood video games melt into psychedelic waves of sub-focussed pressure.
Throughout the record, these themes are engaged by a psyche imprinted by influences such as jungle, footwork, noise, rave, post punk, reggae, the Curry Mile and a river in the Peak District. This results in an auditory fabric that interlocks contrasting physical and digital systems across temporal contexts. Rejoicing in the expression of lived human experience, whilst surrendering to the chaos of the machine.

Kenyan-British audiovisual artist @kopz1 articulates contrast on his @second-born-recs debut with 'A Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamic System', juxtaposing vignettes of human life through autobiographical field recordings, manually looped vinyl, and childhood video games.

Comprising of demos sent to PCMS over the last year, Pinecone Moonshine's "Aspects" continues where 2022's "Facets" left off – showing many sides or methods to rhythm in the PCMS style. Building the album was a process of selecting tracks that progressed well while showing variety.

And so "Aspects" covers a range of approaches to drum and bass rhythm. Similar musical keys and ambient backdrops connect the tracks. Long-time PCMS contributor Fushara starts the album off with his signature, natural sounding drum kits. Healing Force Project and Dot Notation lean into chopping breakbeats. Brad Impact's "Do or Die" sits somewhere between drumfunk and techstep. Kop-Z melds a techno 4/4 approach with 170 bpm. Jiva and Kodama (Acid Lab) both use synthetic percussion with Kodama going so minimal that the LP ends with rhythmic ambient music.
