What an enjoyment to play vinyl-only set again! 
On a Sunday morning, I picked some of my records and started to play a set in my music room. The process was so pleasant and joyful that I decided to  press "REC" button to keep those moments for future. I spontaneously chose the records I had not listened for quite a long time. It felt very natural as nothing was planned in advance - neither the selection nor the time, the concept, the goal... The Sunday Vinyl Picking came out to be a session of music from vinyl that crossed borders and spanned decades - from the vast territory (also imaginary one) of Middle East and Mediterranean region. It is light, eclectic and groovy as this Sunday morning.

The truth is that the more I play digital sets, the more I enjoy playing vinyl for myself. It feels like to be back to where it all started for me.

Sunday Vinyl Picking

Hunee just happens to be our favourite Korean Berliner. Not only because he's particularly nifty behind the crossfaders, but also due to his handsome approach to making house and techno. His releases have been few and far between, rightfully choosing quality over quantity with output. But now he returns from a three year hiatus to reveal his long awaited debut longplayer, Hunch Music via Rush Hour.

It continues an ongoing partnership between Hunee and the Amsterdam label—he curated the Soichi Terada-focused Sounds From The Far East compilation back in February.  The album was also recorded in Amsterdam, where Hunee has been living since relocating to the city in 2014 from Berlin via a stint in LA. 

Out of the ten tracks, "Cross Road" had most pulling power. Characterised by acid synths and a rolling drum underbelly, it's cinematic and mystifying in equal measure.

‘Cogito Ergo Jam’ meaning, "I think therefore I jam" sums it all up nicely.  Natural Lateral was born organically out of endless and spontaneous jam sessions at the Lazy Robot Studio in North London. Since 2017, Aziz Mustafa, Ozan Nidayi, Oli Arlotto, Malte From and Tim Balasubramaniam, have all been enjoying playing and recording ideas which gave the birth to their first LP on the Social Joy imprint.

‘Cogito Ergo Jam’ weaves together strands of different musical forms and roots. Although much of the band's love for jazz massively influences their music, their open-minded spirit keeps them engaged in other creative fields and venturing into new territory.Creating organic vibes and textures, the music draws from jazz, through to electronic, with deep grooves and mesmerising psych-synth melodies, weaving magic over the top.

The band fuses rhythmic elements from funk & Latin jazz to syncopated odd meter timings drawing inspiration from Azymuth to Soft Machine, Coltrane to Liston-Smith, to name few of their many influences.

On every track of this LP, Natural Lateral’s frenetic energy in the studio is almost palpable, giving these recordings a beautifully intimate insight into the phenomenal vision of the band.
