Like trudging through viscous air, I Lost All My Data is a blissed-out barrage of sub-bass that nods to a long-lasting passion for sound system culture.

Uploading turbo-charged wubs with molten glass melodies, the debut EP of Giovanni Bonelli (aka Notte Infinita) is a welcomed update for UK style broken-techno conventions. Booting-up with its title track, the record quadrisects the fabric of digital music, each cut a sonic reprogramming of its predecessor. ‘Slippery Tuff’ references off-kilter club, while on the flip, ‘Ecstatic Dub (Roller Mix)’ climaxes in an ultra-sensory faux-organic whorl. Unplugging the whole thang, ‘Oxygen’ manipulates post-dubstep textures, into a data-roused jungle tunnel.

Herva started to work on 'Seez' right after the release of his last Planet Mu album 'Hyper Flux' back in 2017. He was experimenting with home-made hardware and after the album release wanted to raise the bar, challenging himself to build a point-to-point mixer from scratch. This task took almost a year of intense soldering and forced him to scrap music production. Eventually all this hard work grew into making studio hardware properly and he co-founded a new company making mixers and compressors that work with Eurorack, called Audio Gear Obsession.

On 'Seez' Herva moves away completely from the sample-based music he's most known for and into programming and computational production, which he mixes and compresses with his newly-built hardware tools to give them the life and feeling he requires. There's also an element of randomness in 'Seez' as the music is generative, defined with numbers and ratios from his own software, tuned by ear rather than to set scales, with unexpected outcomes.

To make the record, he spent more time digging between the different iterations of each track than coding the programs that generated them. He says "How I make music is kind of weird for most producers, but I like it, and I plan to dig further. You can think of 'Seez' as the alpha version of what I and my system are able to do."

The new music still retains Herva's laid back airy feel. Each track is like a small ecosystem of chiming tones, wafting drones and skittering rhythms, hinting at formal patterns and melodies but developing on its own abstract terms. It feels as if it's the audio equivalent of watching sped-up recordings of a camera capturing different combinations of plants growing, a pleasant and curious experience to let yourself enjoy.

In the darkness they prepared themselves for the battle ahead. What little resources they had left they stockpiled in a safe place, guarded by those who were considered too weak to fight on the field. As soon as the sun reared its head on the horizon, the enemy would soon be on the move and time would be against them. Rumours had reached them that the opposition's army far outweighed their own but they had something to fight for that the others didn't; this battle was for everyone, it was for humanity. 

In June Brighton-based Scotsman Kutkh Jackdaw contributed a dark, industrial rhythmic cut to Medellin-based label Sonidos Subterraneos' compilation Estado De Golpe, a release aimed at raising awareness of and rejecting all forms of abuse, with profits being donated to social work causes. As a follow up to the track, Kutkh invited fellow Brighton producer Movement to put his own spin on it, and that he did, twisting the original into a heady 2-step remix that calls to mind artists and labels of the pre-dubstep era like El-B, Horsepower Productions and Digital Mystikz.

Chichi Draving returns to Allergy Season with On My Mind, the first EP under their new alias UwuQi. Redoubling on the playful, outré club sensibility of their past releases, On My Mind is an expansive 4-tracker slinking through the many moods of heady dance music.

Setting the tone, “On It” is a mischievous groover that weaves a giggling web of haunted MIDI harps and mutated vocal chops. “Crush the Piper” reverberates with piano and sawtooths synths slicing through a dubwise beatscape.

“Your World On A Grain Of Salt” ups the tempo and delivers a raving rollick through UwuQi’s world of ecstatic breaks. Exhaling, the EP bubbles to a close with the syncopated drum work and resonant reverence of “Prayers Prayers.”

Jazz Excursion

Producer duo @ifs_raps and Japanese rapper @ultrama00 team up for a collective ritual.

Imagine a consciousness saturated with a psychoactive substance. Perceptual precision spills out of the defined limits, colours blur and the edges of objects become sticky and stretchy. At this borderline moment, between waking and hallucination, the pulse is activated. It begins to accelerate. It forces the body to react immediately. A syncopated strobe flashes with rhythm. A figure that is a voice enters the stage. With each formed word, the voice sinks into its sound, dissolving meaning into the fractal sonority of language.

REIFSMA activates in apparent simplicity. The initial drum loops sound familiar ('Heddchara'), but then - from behind the sliding curtain of the beat - MA appears on stage. He begins to weave his multi-layered story. His voice seems to be in many places at once. On the one hand, he is trying to create some kind of narrative, but at the same time he can't stop himself from uncontrollable, sound-alike digressions that spread in different directions. The stories told by MA seem to oscillate around automatic writing and create snapshot images of a frenetic mind reacting to the slightest hint of reality. MA's voice shows its wide register and different frequencies, as if it is capturing from within the streams of consciousness of different people lending itself to them to spin their own stories. There is something sensually primal in this gesture, playing out beyond the control of habitually trained attention. The IFS duo's rushing beats follow the shamanic MA like his shadow. They accompany him with their jitteriness ("Shinnyu"), nervous loops ("Yaksoq") and breadth of perspective ("Enshooritz"). However, they do not pretend to distract from MA's voice; rather, they try to frame a broad panorama for the ritual situation.

In the world of REIFSMA, listeners feel like characters in William Gibson's books. Faced with sensual overstimulation, the body reacts uncontrollably and spontaneously. The aim, however, is not liberation from technology, but to find a loop for the body to instinctively follow.

IFS is a duo of producers coming from Poland: Mateusz Wysocki (@fischerle) and Krzysztof @kook-on Ostrowski. Their extensive musical fascinations draw on traditions such as avant-garde, dub, glitch, footwork and hip-hop. There have been five releases by the duo to date, including the 2022 album 'Psycho Outs' recorded with Polish rapper Prykson.

MA is a Tokyo-based Japanese rapper and vocalist. His musical activities include extended vocal practices and field recordings. Two MA albums have been released so far - a debut album on Morphine Records and a collaboration with Italian sound artist Nicola Ratti 'NR + MA'.
