Producing records since 2002, releasing internationally since 2006, Irishman Chymera praises the electronic capital with his new release Varial Crush, a carefully honed 2-track EP of house and dub techno, via Sound of Berlin.

Varial Crush showcases everything Chymera does well: the rhythms are intricate and shifting, the house chords are appropriate, smooth, and elegant, the track ups the tension before climaxing in a heart-racing break. The EP scales back the rhythms to paint a portrait of the electronic capital, Berlin. The track is warm and hopeful. Its gentle swells tease the feeling out of a mild-mannered chord line.

Chymera brushes his chords with the force of a house producer laying down dub techno in his track titled "Earth." The song builds up into an intrinsic narrative, playing around the variations of the chords and sirens' sounds growing slowly into a calm and atmospheric epiphany.

Producing electronic music since 2002, Chymera gained wider recognition in 2006 with the release of his track "Midnight at the Aquarium", sitting neatly at the juxtaposition of house and techno, forcefully announcing his arrival on the international scene. He followed this up with several key tracks on heavyweight labels like Ovum, Delsin, and NRK and further solidified his intensely personal brand of melodic techno and house. 

Adept at performing his own music, he's honed his playing style over the years to the point where he can rock any stage, big or small, reinterpreting his favourite tracks for the audience and utilizing various pieces of hardware in addition to his trusty Ableton setup. His energetic sets have brought him to almost every continent and some of the finest clubs and festivals, such as Panorama Bar, Today's Art Festival, Womb, Output, Nachtdigital, Rex Club, and more.

As well as releasing his introspective album "Death By Misadventure" on Connaisseur, notable tracks like "Curl'' on Dirt Crew Recordings, and emotional techno epic "Pump" on Cocoon, Chymera has found his way into the hearts of many DJs and fans around the world. It's no wonder that he's been approached to remix tracks by Moby, Funk D'Void, Alex Niggemann, and Hunter/Game amongst others.

To this day, he's stayed true to himself, combining his love of Detroit techno and Chicago house into a thoroughly individual and distinctive mix.

Before Genius of Time forged their reputation as one of the most impressive hardware acts, not to mention flat-out nicest dudes, in the game, Dorisburg rode solo with music in a similar vein; once they took off, that moniker got put in the cryogenic freezer. Dials were set to 'dethaw' in 2015, and so we arrive now at "Dimension Sculpture". Release nº3 from upstart imprint Myth Music (steered by our very own lovely host-programmer-überdon Baron Castle, fact fans) comes with a tempting edit from label co-founder Lando on the flip, but we needed to let the A-side loose. It's choppy, dark, infectious and guaranteed to melt faces – and quite possibly support beams, too – in packed basements and festival tents across the entire summer, and beyond.

Whether you know him as a member of Minilogue, IMPS, Son Kite or as Ooze, there's no denying that Sebastian Mullaert is a man of many talents.

Having been classically trained on just about every musical instrument possible, Mullaert began working with his long-time collaborator Marcus Henriksson back in the early 90s. Now they operate as Minilogue and the minimal techno duo have been producing gold standard electronic music for a long, long time.

Anytime a Cadenza release hits the inbox you can be sure we're going to take a listen, and lately we've been more intrigued than ever with the long running label from Luciano. The latest offering comes with a pair of remixes for Mirko Loko by both Sebastian Mullaert and Brett Johnson. Mullaert, known for his work with Marcus Henriksson as Minilogue, delivers two top notch remixes for "Venus", the second of which, Phaze Two, we're premiering here today on EARMILK. Intricate melodies ride overtop a chilled out percussion groove to deliver one of the gems from the EP. Stream it below before it's released May 30th on Cadenza Music.

Following the mega-hit “Let’s Go Dancing” and the micro-hit “Fever,” Nightclub marks the third release from techno truth-tellers Tiga vs. Audion. To announce the EP, Tiga recently gave a lengthy audio press conference while driving a Turbo company car all the way down to City Hall. A partial transcript follows:

ON THE INSPIRATION

“Living in contemporary society? It’s a joke. But what’s no joke is that rough times call for rough customers, and this EP finds two top techno producers in the mood for ballsiness, reflecting the times with a harder-edged sound, harder-edged artwork, and harder-edged calls for our leaders to remember that the dance floor was built on unity, plurality, and unshacklable animality.”

ON THE TRACK TITLES

“After careful study, we came to the conclusion that the worse the titles, the more ‘techno’ the tracks. A-side ‘Stabbed in the Back’ takes its name from the fact that the track has keyboard stabs in it. Maybe my least favourite title of anything I’ve ever done, which is remarkable considering the runner-up was an unreleased stab-free track called ‘Doctors Without Keyboards.’ ‘Pink Bells’ was originally called ‘The Bells’ but I was told that this guy Geoff had already used it. ‘Nonstop’ got its name from the fact that I was really on a roll with bad titles at the time.”

ON THE CREATIVE PROCESS

“It’s extremely challenging to make instrumental techno with enough of a hook and enough of a funk to stand out, and it’s exponentially more difficult when I know deep down I could make everything alright so easily with just the sound of my voice. We bought a set of Bryan Adams Studio Flash Cards, which instructed us to make the kind of hyper-utilitarian dance tracks we could play in our own DJ sets. Sometimes, even musicians need to be reminded to put themselves first.”
