Following 2020’s ‘Mirror Man’ LP on Radio Slave’s Rekids, Detroit pioneer Robert Hood returns to the label with a four-track EP of his trailblazing minimal techno. Leading the release, ‘Chroma Light’ opens with cinematic pads and pounding 4/4 patterns as twisted synthesis modulates throughout for a striking start. Followed by ‘The Majestic (Deeper Edit)’, with rattling percussion and fiercely relentless stabs, Hood shows his intent in creating propulsive, dancefloor focussed cuts across the EP.

On the flip, ‘The Majestic’ takes the B1 spot, expanding on the previous track with wild synths and his signature machine-like drums before ‘Ultrasonic Room’ closes out the release with eerie atmospherics and an underlying hypnotic pulse taking centre stage.

A founding member of Underground Resistance alongside Mad Mike Banks and Jeff Mills, Robert Hood is one of techno’s originators, with his decorated career spanning three decades across labels like Tresor, Peacefrog, Music Man Records, and of course, his own M Plant.

Soma Records is inarguably one of Techno's major forces in 2017 and since it’s inception on the streets of Glasgow, Soma Records has stood for uncompromising quality of the highest level in every area it operates.
Label figureheads Slam formed the label in 1991 together with friends Glenn Gibbons & Dave Clarke and subsequently forged one of electronic music’s most widely known and well-respected labels. Soma quickly began to develop its own sound with classics such as Slam's timeless ‘Positive Education’ and helped launch the careers of many great artists like Surgeon, Envoy, Funk D’Void, Silicone Soul and Alex Smoke as well as the discovery of French duo Daft Punk who released their first rudimentary, raw outings on the label back in 1994.

With their eyes firmly fixed on a vision of the future, Soma began the quest to instil their unquenchable passion and thirst for electronic music onto the world around them.

Soma have enlisted the likes of Jeff Mills, Robert Hood, Steve Bicknell, Andrew Weatherall (appearing as Woodleigh Research Facility), Blawan, Adam Beyer and more to provide brand new musical excursions for today's dance floors and beyond. These, coupled with many of today's new, up and coming names in the techno genre like Kobosil, VRIL & Jonas Kopp choosing their favourite tracks from the Soma back catalogue to remix sees Soma’s futuristic vision remaining strong with the celebration of 25 years being one of a forward thinking nature rather than one of nostalgia.

Ostgut’s Kobosil brings Slam’s ‘Visions’ into the prevailing drone-ebbed world, the veiled VRIL douses the timeless X Track by Percy X in his dubbed out demeanour and Jonas Kopp’s EBM workout of another Slam classic, ‘Stepback’ creates the standpoint for the project: “Always forward, never back”. Jeff Mills’ provides otherworldly connections with ‘A Tale From The Parallel Universe’, Weatherall delivers future/retro acid and Josh Wink unleashes a 9min epic dance floor burner. Robert Hood provides a straight up, fast paced dance floor workout; all coming together to form the collective consciousness of the Soma attitude. Slam deliver ‘Tempest’, a track that perfectly sums up the whirlwind last few years the pair have enjoyed as they continue to be at the forefront of the global Techno elite. Completing the assemblage of original tracks is Soma’s own Funk D’Void, bringing his unique brand of jacked up electronics with ‘808 Planet’.

Rekids celebrates 10 years of Radio Slave’s ‘Grindhouse’ with remixes from Len Faki, Slam, Obscure Shape & SHDW, Vatican Shadow, Markus Suckut, Lady Starlight and Special Request. First appearing on a release as part of Radio Slave’s iconic ‘No Sleep’ series, ‘Grindhouse’ spawned multiple remixes from the likes of Dubfire, Danton Eeprom, Terrance Fixmer and Nic Fanciulli to become one of the biggest techno records since its original release. To commemorate this fact, Len Faki has produced two different reinterpretations in the first of four heavyweight remix packages.

“I didn’t plan to go back to Grindhouse. It’s a monster of a record and undoubtedly the biggest release we’ve had on the label, but after 10 years it seems right to revisit the track and also add some new versions from some of my favourite techno producers." – Radio Slave With Danton Eeprom’s vocal resonating throughout, Faki’s first remix features crunchy snares, ominous chords and shuffling effects before piercing synths come into effect in the latter half. Meanwhile, the second version rumbles forward with its undulating bassline, soaring atmospherics and echoing elements to round up two solid productions exemplary of the Figure founder’s seasoned abilities in the studio.

Florian Meindl's third album "Time Illusion" saw him diving deep into the analog music production by using modular synthesizers and vintage gear as well as performing those machines at exclusive live shows. This EP brings together the analog world and the digital editing and processing possibilities to form a unique blend of both methods. "Metroacid" is carried by a challenging polyrhythmic acid-line, which is lifted to another perceived pitch by a pad cadence, which disappears apruptly after its purpose was fulfilled towards the end of the peripatetic breakdown in order to leaving the room needed to unfold the full potential of the acidic sequence, which errupts unexpectedly and creates a wild peak in the last third of the track and transitions into the elegant outro. "Hidden Populations" represents Florian Meindl's deeper and somewhat softer side with surrealistic designed synth melodies woven into hypnotic drums. The Argentinian Techno producer Flug transformed it into a slightly more systematic and dense construction which stands out with its vigorous beats, making it a super-playable track.

Prolific German duo andhim link with GusGus singer Högni Egilsson to produce two new deep techno ballads on their 'Stay Close To Me' EP, which features a seductive, captivating and rolling title track.

Since launching Superfriends Records in 2016, andhim have released their solo material exclusively on the imprint. Now their back on familiar territory once again with their latest offering, showcasing the distinct melodic and driving sound they've become known for throughout their career.

Revisiting another classic for this issue of Len Faki's edits, he chooses Kotai's 2002 track BA3 Breathing, a standout-cut for it's ringing vocals and ominous bassline rumbles. With the original clocking in at the 10-minute mark already, Faki's tribute mix is not much shorter, but manages to fill the spaces between beats with lots of fresh details, lifting the song's energy to a new level, while retaining the soft but sexy vibe of Kotai's compostion. Tightening up the mix and making away with vocals alltogether, the Hardspace Tool-version then solely puts its focus on busty beats and percussive prowess, staking its claim as contender for bossiest bassline of the night.

As with all releases of LF RMX, the proceeds of this record will be forwarded to the Berlin organization Straßenkinder e.V. to be used in actions against child poverty.

I am super proud to present the part 1 of "Noir Remixed" with fantastic remixes from some of my favorite producers. Johannes Heil, Cardao, Robert S (PT), Wisna, Electric Rescue and DSTRD.
You probably know some of the names, some you might not have heard of; but the fact is...... You should really have all of them on your radar cause they all create incredible music.
I chose the remixers strictly from my own personal taste in music and producers I felt suited my tracks the most.

I honestly feel all the remixes here are unique and they are also an indicator of the direction Noir Music is taking this summer/fall.
