EMA’s Woozy label continues apace with WZY2.5; a new compilation highlighting 8 artists from Ireland and afar that embody the imprint’s obsession with low-end futurism. Featuring 2 production debuts, this release acts as an exciting snapshot of the talented global community surrounding the label and its founder.

Dublin-based Ambit kicks us off with Act Of Goodness, her impressive debut that skanks on a ‘08 dread-step tip. Fellow Dub PLUS ONE drops/raises the tempo for TRIAL, a stripped back halftime sub workout. Mid Air’s Huna seesaws a techno dancehall/d’n’b lurch with wild exploratory sound design in Lang. More Cowbell’s Eich also debuts with the mid-tempo party bass swagger of INDUCTION. Vancouver’s Destrata applies throbbing wubs and dramatic breaks on a smart 2-step break in Amphibian Barrier. Amsterdam’s Jasmín takes things on a more sinister route, delivering the technoid punk chug of Grumpy Cat. New York’s Sobolik revs up the gears with the playful ‘n’ bouncy hardcore rush of Deadly. WDDS sees us out with Slow Burner, a tense d’n’b roller that itches with junglist rinse-out fervour for a proper finale.

The restaurant was full, brimming with the creme de la creme of society - anyone who was anyone could be found lurking in this dimly lit establishment. Amongst the clusters of suited up business men and their trophy wives, she propped herself at the bar, waiting anxiously to meet the woman who could potentially change her life. If all went well, she'd be rubbing shoulders with this clientele regularly, dressed in the most designer of garments, sipping on the most expensive of champagnes. It's what she'd always wanted, a real in to the high society, but really she knew that, underneath the facade, she'd still always feel like an outsider. 

Amsterdam's Flippen Disks are launching a brand new offshoot, Flippen Bits. In contrast to the main label which highlights artists exploring borderless music that can be listened to at home or played on the dance floor, the sub-label will focus more on functional club music, starting with an EP from Welsh-born, Amsterdam-based producer Maroki. Best served late at night, the future-facing tracks that make up Coldred are full of bass weight and dense percussion, layered over frenetic breakbeats.

Long-time friend of the label Plesk Parallel makes her way to All Centre to release a sublime double tracker. On Spit Fountain, Plesk Parallel revitalizes her sound with a pair of transcendent, explorative club tracks.

Spit Fountain opens as a CR-78 drum machine workout heavily manipulated by masterful sound design. Drum clicks reverberate across a cavernous space charted by booming sub-low kicks. A disorienting melody enters the fray in the latter half of the track, reminiscent of AFX b-sides and microtonal experiments.

Morpho shifts into a more mechanical, to-the-grid groove with rigid kick drums and earworm percussion. Drawing on 90s & 00s broken techno, Plesk Parallel puts her own spin on these conventions, augmenting the style with perfected sound design, hypnotic pads and a heavy, dubbed-out bassline.

Spit Fountain is available on all digital platforms from November 10th.
