In the space of just four years and little over 20 releases, Hamburg’s JEUDI Records has established itself as one of the foremost imprints in the world of melodic deep and tech house music. Born from the weekly club night of the same name taking place at their hometown venue Baalsaal (on the infamous Reeperbahn), it’s a label which focuses on quality over quantity, and has showcased music from the likes of Doctor Dru, Adana Twins, Turntablerocker, Sidney Charles and Monte in its short but acclaimed history. Pushing the new breed alongside a smattering of established dons, their riff-fuelled, synth-heavy sounds are encapsulated in their monthly Sceen.fm radio show - and now for the first time in a smoking hot compilation.

House Of Disco are back in full swing after a short hiatus, building on their pedigree that has brought the world music from the likes of Finnebassen, EJECA and Volta Cab over the past two years. With an increasingly busy global DJ schedule, their own parties in London and their own guest mix series bolstering their consistent online curation, they have amassed a sizable, fervent following.

House Of Jeudi makes for a seriously moreish listen, full to the brim of incredibly consistent and charismatic dancefloor delights - with each label picking six tracks. JEUDI’s selection takes us from the moody Reese basslines of Danito & Athina’s Harmony Baby, to Sean Roman’s contemplative I Find Myself and the spooky depths of Camelphat’s 360, while House Of Disco journey through the skippy funk of Roberto Rodriguez’s North Step, HNNY’s delicate Oma Doris, and the slinky disco of LeSale’s Fit Trucker.

Suited just as well to the home stereo as to the dancefloor, it’s an engrossing compilation that’s got plenty to offer for DJs and casual listeners alike, and looks set to cement both labels incredibly solid reps even further.

'Shir Khan's Black Jukebox is back with its 16th edition and it's all killer no filler as we'll explain. First up the EP starts off in wicked fashion with the thumping, swing fuelled groove of Iban Montoro & Jazzman Wax's "I Believe" with its jazzy piano loops.. this one's definitely made to play! On the flip we've got the lo-slung deep groove of Dutchman Bas Roos' "Midnight People" that's just perfect for a 3 AM Chicago basement shut in or Bushwick loft party alike! Finally Soul Clap Records affiliated G Markus' "The Man From Planet Jazz" is indeed a jazzy little something, no doubt inspired by the Windy City Style.' (Review by JUNO) 

'Shir Khan sees out the Summer with one more V/A 4-tracker for the terraces. Iban Montoro & Jazzman Wax (Robsoul) take care of the B-side while Bas Roos and G. Markus (of Soul Clap Edits) take charge of the flip. "I Believe" is filtered, piano-led feel-good house music. With a riff akin to Paul Johnson's "Get Get Down" it's actually the same sample used by the Happy Clappers tune of exactly the same name. "Scorpio" opts for a more beatdown flavoured groove as more funk and disco samples are tastefully layered in that idiosyncratic style. Onto the B-side and Bas Roos' "Midnight People" is a sultry, low-slung affair again with added filter action and plenty of soulful vocal snatches. Finally, G. Markus concludes the set with "The Man From Planet Jazz". An organic house number along the lines of Rotating Assembly or Glen Underground; rich with vibrant piano work, warm bass lively congas. Play It Down brings together many of its veteran artists for the 100th release, which, in the current incarnation of the label, will also be its last.

A word from Jesse Rose:
“It’s been an amazing rollercoaster of a ride with Play It Down and when asked why I would stop releasing in its current incarnation the answer was obvious. I’ve always been very involved in the A&R process of all the releases. I’ve always felt confident to tell an artist if something should be taken out or added because I have spent (near enough) every weekend for the last two decades in a club, listening and playing House music. I would test the demos in my sets and know automatically what felt right and what felt wrong. If I’m not playing in clubs it wouldn’t feel right for me to tell someone who is playing shows every weekend how their record should sound. And ultimately, Play It Down for me has been about finding music I've wanted to play in my sets. So for the minute it’s a massive thank you to all the artists, fellow DJs, supporters, club-goers,
distributors, journalists, radio presenters, interns, promoters, bootleggers, and to Laura (who has worked day-in & day-out overseeing near every part of the label for the past five years) for letting us come up with dreams that all of you have helped make a reality.
This Play It Down 100 compilation album of original tracks brings back all the current roster to collaborate and a few tracks written solo by some of our key artists. It was a very enjoyable process to see what they would all come back with.”
