Born in Mexico, Daniela Huerta is a multimedia artist based in Berlin. She has developed her very own DJ direction under the moniker Baby Vulture.

She digs, she excavates, and when she raises her many voices, it’s like a call—pure, long, and throbbing. In an almost archaeological manner, she continues searching for distinct tones, noises, and variables that allow her to distort the nature of things, seeking to create mind-bending states.

For this mix, I tried to find the sweet spot between sultry and haunting; cerebral yet somatic. It came together almost on its own—a gently cascading rabbit hole of tech and dubstep, guided by indulgent pads and dubbed-out chords.

Drum grooves left behind on the disk drive of an old SP1200, a rusted spring reverb and crates of dusty records, all boxed up in a distant relative’s workshop. @commandd has uncovered the first tracks in a series of forgotten gems of a distant relative, a craftsman inspired by the raw style of 90s house and techno.

On a mission to keep dancefloors moving, this long-lost relative’s productions find new life, with a hope to travel from city to city, deejays responsible for carrying sounds forged in the fire of an undeniable groove. 

The Vibesmith is the work of an alchemist with the freedom to embrace imperfection and find solace in tradition.

With no concern for passing trends, the Vibesmith went about thankless work at the forge, the fruits of their labour finally available for all to taste.”

Command D presents ‘Fever’, the first in a series of releases under his no muss, no fuss imprint ‘The Vibesmith’. Taking inspiration from Junior Byles’ 50s era joint, also called ‘Fever’, the track is a reinvigoration of an inescapable vibe sure to capture the attention of any willing dance floor.

The smith forges on, with no doubt many more to come.

‘The Vibesmith 001’ releases as a double single via Command D’s Bandcamp this Friday, August 29.

driving to the beat of your body’s tempo, filling out the bathwater until it’s sloshing over the edge of the tub and rippling through the cracks of the tiled floor.
leaking through the soundproofing of your chest, a heartbeat playing like a funktion-one to an crowd of toothpastes and dressing gowns and collapsing candles.
a heartbeat spreading all over the floor. skipping and stopping and stretching and expanding and seething.

- yeah, that. to me, are the sounds for this episode. not gonna lie I really let rip on this radio instalment > a bit of a trip and a skit and a bit.
