A bit about the track:

Our best work usually comes together organically, and “Numbers" was no exception.
We invited our friends Pat Lok and Ekali to come and work with us in our East Van studio and presented a group challenge: we would try and write as many song ideas as possible in a day and would never spend more than 45 minutes on something before moving on.
It was a crazy musical whirlwind of a day. Later that night, we listened back to everything we had done, and one idea in particular stuck out because Shaddy’s rough vocal melody just seemed so infectious….
The lyric was “you've got my number don’t make me wait” - how many times have you found yourself in a situation where you’ve managed to connect with somebody that really intrigues you, but end up sitting around waiting for them to hit you back?
In the following weeks, we ran with this idea lyrically and jumped deep into production, a process that turned out to be one of the most enjoyable sessions we've had this year. Shaddy got to experiment with big vocal stacks, we recorded a ton of live percussion (timbales, clavas, cowbells and random metal objects), and combined a classic 4 on the floor beat with some filtered out house inspired synths. We feel it's the perfect way to wrap up 2015 and hope you enjoy it.

In 1612, on the 15th night of the first month, when the moon was half, centered in the sky and the village's families in their beds, there was a local magistrate who pondered the great questions in his mind. He found his quill and his ink and began to, without filter, press his thoughts into the page. 

This is a similar feeling that we had writing the song "Down In It". We want the page to reveal the shapes that correspond with letters and enunciations, corresponding to feelings that we've had and that the universal "we" have also had. There is no use rewriting the books, because we have printers. 

This gives you a glimpse of insight into our writing process. As a whole, how does this song fit into our next EP "Who is Donny Flamingo"? It kinda remains to be seen. Certainly, Donny Flamingo is a curious character that is difficult to define, a complex villain, a tale as old as tails, so I don't think we have the answers, not yet at least.
