Having introduced a plethora of some of the most talented and versatile producers working within Drum & Bass today, it makes sense in 2013 – a full five years after Mainframe’s debut release – that the label should simultaneously revisit and re-imagine a four-piece set of tracks that have represented in full our sound since the very beginning. Reading like a who’s-who of forward-thinkers whilst presenting both debuting and returning artists, the Remix EP is no mere retrospective: four tracks varying wildly in composition and tone, a true display of production excellence from a collective at the height of their respective technical abilities. The abstraction of their mechanism birthed roots within molecular gaps as the expanse stretched the borders of the present, splitting each moment with skull-penetrating audio enhancement. The body of their creation unveiled against a timeless backdrop, the properties of addition stacked into the present - pressing at the very fabric of perception.

Following up the viciously effective PROPERTIES OF ADDITION sampler EP that landed heftily in raves worldwide in March, comes the powerful full-length debut LP from the fresh might of Ukrainian duo AGRESSOR BUNX. They emerged with force onto EATBRAIN with ‘The Order’ EP in 2016, tearing a ragged furrow through the year and rapidly rising to the apex of the drum & bass sphere with releases on Blackout, Trendkill, Bad Taste and RAM. With the duo featuring heavily at Eatbrain live shows, they’ve seared their sound deep into the hearts of the label’s massive crew and quickly become embedded in the core of their aesthetic. ‘Modulation’ is a single which once again demonstrates why The Prophecy has been gaining traction within their genre. Its construction points at how meticulous their production standard is, with carefully layered beat patterns and a heavyweight bassline which adds to the track’s heavier elements. The track begins to build steadily on light percussion, before its breakdown drops into segments of pumping distortion. Each flurry of beats pushes the track further and further onto the dancefloor, a sure-fire record which will rattle club speakers from Slovakia to the UK. It sets a precedent for the duo, epitomising a level of sonic manufacturing often not seen within artists just at the beginning stages of their career.

Task Horizon’s hiatus was a mystery felt throughout the world of drum & bass; secluded within the mountains of Switzerland, their scrupulously engineered cuts once littered the sets artists across the genre’s spectrum. And when they decided to close another chapter of their musical careers in 2014, their absence struck a chord. However, three years later the outfit returned already garnering support once again from tastemakers at BBC Radio 1. And for the New Year, they’ve delivered a five track EP of standalone tracks and collaborations for Eatbrain, a label who’ve taken dominion over the underground’s most vital corners.

The foursome are about to unleash their technically orchestrated ‘Overclocking Reality’ package onto the masses. Its title-track rolls out with a deceptive intro, one which begins to swell amongst rolling drums pads and ethereal synths. Up next comes a collaboration with German stalwarts Neonlight, delivering a melting pot of stellar musical aptitudes. ‘Enigma Machine’ is fast paced, unforgiving and oozes with menace, whilst featuring orchestral undertones that nod to the expert musicality of both production groups. Magnetude also jump on board for ‘Immortality Protocol’, another sci-fi inspired record pumping with extra terrestrial samples and metallic percussion. Next up, ‘M-920 Cain’ crashes forward with hollowed kicks and robotic vocal snippets, a dancefloor-lead anthem which is chaotic in its detonation.

And finally, your aural synapses are snared by finishing track ‘Flight Simulator’. Each electronically keyed note and rattling hi-hat leaves you mercilessly submerged, before the record breaks down into growling bass riddims and fluctuating distortion. Task Horizon has resurfaced and with the platform of a formidable imprint. Beside Eatbrain, they’re marked to once again inject their vision into the DNA of drum & bass.
