Emerging from a three-year-long hiatus is musician, actress, model, and sociocultural rabble rouser Yvette Lera as she unveils the music video for her song, “Burning Planet.” Originally written and recorded by Lera with Will Gannon in 2012, the track presents the artist’s premonitory observations of a world in disarray, with Lera explaining that “The Planet is burning and being destroyed by those in power who are corrupt and who wish to control humanity and destroy all resources for their diabolical agendas.” A boisterous industrial/rock track that hearkens back to the artist’s early days as a member of Chicago band Lick, the accompanying video was shot in Antioch, TN by Brandy Powers Crowe, edited by Lera in a straightforward and D.I.Y. style that she describes as “a Tik-Tok video on crack.” Of its style, Lera comments that “the rawness of little to no resources can be really cool and has a magic to it.” The juxtaposition of Lera seemingly ranting in a manic and maniacal fashion on a sunny day in a cemetery before shifting to the post-industrial waste of an abandoned Checkers, framed by images of current world events, further emphasizes the song’s themes; “We must be the light in these dark times,” she continues, “to help restore balance to humankind and this planet before it’s too late.”

“Burning Planet” marks the first material Lera has released since 2020 when she appeared as a guest vocalist in Chrome Pipes’ “Lights Out!” single; before that, she had enjoyed a brief stint as a co-host of the Chicago-based MKUltraSound Podcast helmed by MK Ultra Magazine‘s Alex Zander. Over the years, Lera has collaborated in numerous bands and projects with the likes of Glenn Danzig, Taime Down, X-Japan’s Hide, Chris Vrenna, Die Robot, and with Killing Joke members Jaz Coleman, Geordie Walker, and Paul Raven. “I have full control of my message and how I want to portray it,” she states, with plans to unleash more music in the coming months, much of which was recorded but had remained unreleased for more than a decade.

"You Can't Put Your Arms Around a Memory" a Tribute to the Memory of Bria Toulemonde. 10/29/2023

Some artists go through multiple transformations early in their career, stumbling from one idea or genre to the next, before finding their true artistic selves. And then there are artists like Matthew Lidwin, frontman for goth metal band 616, who emerged seemingly fully formed and ready to share his vision with the world. Hailing from Milwaukee, WI, Lidwin formed 616 in 2018 drawing inspiration from bands such as HIM, The 69 Eyes and Type O Negative.

Along the way, Lidwin has been ably helped by collaborations with pro-skateboarder and fellow musician Bam Margera, drummer Mika “Gas Lipstick” Karppinen of HIM/Flat Earth, and multi-platinum producer John Fryer (NIN/Stabbing Westward). In 2020, 616 signed with indie giant Cleopatra Records and began issuing new music both on digital as well as physical formats. Today, Lidwin is working tirelessly to bring about the next stage for 616, a new album, more music videos and devout dedication to what he terms “Love Metal.”

Their most recent project, “Mercenary Notes Pt 1” (EP), was released on Dec 23, 2022, via Glitch Mode Recordings and gained tremendous audience feedback and industry acclaim. Now set to release their next release “Slaves Rebuild”, the group explores a new sound and shocks audiences once again.

Went to Chicago and Wisconsin for Alex’s birthday, and IT WAS A BLAST!!!! Flew in Michigan for it, and it was a weekend of non-stopped laughter from the time I landed until the time I left. From doing his podcast with Dave McAnally and the guys in 616, to his birthday bash at Live Wire in Chicago(featuring Dave and his band Derision Cult and the previous mentioned 616) , to the drive to New Glarus, WI(which included Alex getting scratched by a homeless guy in a red clown nose. when we stopped at a redlight), and heard a KISS song entitled “Shout It Out, Lou”, according to Josh’s satellite radio.

Although their debut, 420 show had to be cancelled due to COVID-19, their new single, “Mary Jane Farmer,” will be released on April 20, 2020 alongside a lyric video and just in time for the festivities. It will be the first track from their self titled album, out this summer.

Brooklyn-based electronic-sleaze, disco-dance-metal grime group Makes My Blood Dance cannot be assigned to one genre, and instead fuses styles from all across the board, incorporating elements of cyberpunk, metal, and pop. Lead singer EVO is joined by Jon Kristian on guitar and synth to create infectious melodies and hard-hitting riffs that stick with listeners even after the song has ended.

Frontman EVO founded MMBD with lead guitar/synth player Jon Kristian at a transitional time in life; early in recovery from addiction, the two connected over their mutual passion for metal and bonded over their personal journeys. EVO describes himself as “A shaman of music and love magic, a communicator who is also flawed but has been broken enough to be honest and share in the healing....and still learning.”

Early on in their career, MMBD was described as Disco-Metal, and since then the group has transformed their sound to include sonic elements of synth-wave and cyberpunk. A unique combination of groove and dance-oriented rhythms is paired with a pop-y melodic and theatrical musical approach to set MMBD on an entirely new level than most artists in neighboring genres. Some describe them as a “ballsier Panic at the Disco, with Ghost, Mindless Self Indulgence, and NIN rolled into one.”

Weekly NSFW PodCast: 60 + minutes of uncensored, unrestrained, unregulated and unapologetic talk regarding topics ranging from social media hyper - hysteria and toxic sensitivity, the freedom of speech, entertainment and non -mainstream  pop culture.

MKULTRASOUND was created by Alex Zander (Chicago) founder of MK ULTRA Magazine who serves as host and producer along with Executive Producer Too Dark Mark (Baton Rouge) video editing for YouTube by various editors. The show is recorded in Chicago at Studio D-Ablo and with production in Baton Rouge at ALAB Media.

As founder of MK ULTRA Magazine Alex Zander acted as publisher, editor, promoter, sales executive and made all distributions deals and oversaw all staff operations. 

Established in 1995 mk ultra magazine was an born when alternative music became mainstream this publication became considered, dark, and or underground or part of a subculture, which is in part true, but the body of work itself defies definition. 

Once dubbed the most anti establishment publication of it's kind mk ultra magazine always danced on the edge of what was considered acceptable by the staus quo, and it always will. 

MK ULTRA started out as only  a 28 page newsprint tabloid with a small run of only 250 copies published in Pittsburgh, PA. By the summer of 1995 (and two issues) MK ULTRA received national recognition and subscriptions over the world. Till 2000 it was available free. 

By 2001 MK ULTRA was nearly 100 pages per issue with full color glossy cover and centerfold and worldwide distribution with Tower Records and Desert Moon Publications becoming distributed worldwide and also sponsored 2 national tours headlined by Invisible Records artist, Pigface. . 

The cover price was $5 per issue. 

In 1999 they produced and hosted an hour long weekly radio program, MK ULTRASOUND on FM station Rebel Radio WJKL 94.3. Later that year it was picked up by Flagstaff Arizona's LOUD RADIO Network KLOD 100.1 FM and began syndication as the MK ULTRASOUND Radio Network known for it's cutting edge non mainstream music, dark and sometimes controversial humor as well as in depth live uncensored interviews. The show ran until early 2002.
