Los Angeles MC and Producer Kamal aka Radioinactive has been trailblazing since the early 1990s. As a member of the Los Angeles Hip Hop group The Shape Shifters along with DJ Rob One, he helped create a solid following for them, achieving 50,000 records sold.

Radioinactive produces albums from his Flying Carpet Studios, where recording wizardry crosses paths with unique rhymes. He is a word juggler in the true sense of the word; delivering nuggets of wisdom wrapped in humor. It’s not just about Rap and sampling. This is real instrumentation with drum machines and vocal styling. The sounds created are then warmed up through tape, tubes & vintage analog gear.

Kamal’s early work as an MC is documented in the now mythical group Log Cabin with Murs, Eligh, Scarub, & Elusive. Garnering attention internationally, their music has had a global impact on Hip-Hop. Fans of this cult Hip-Hop group approach the subject of the band and begin to stutter. Just mere mention of the group among fanatics produces ecstatic reactions. Kamal is also a very skilled producer and engineer. He is one of L.A.’s most wanted engineers, having mixed Ariel Pink’s ‘Round And Round’ song, collaborated with Daedelus, Les McCann, Grand Puba, Ikey Owens of Mars Volta, Sunny Levine (Happy Mondays, Pete Yorn, Scarlet Johansen), Busdriver, recorded on the Mush & Ninja Tune labels, performed as Radioinactive in Europe & Japan with Gangstarr, Souls Of Mischief, Madlib, Bigg Jus from Company Flow, Afrika Bambaataa, Sugar Hill Gang & many others.

As Radioinactive, Kamal has consistently charted on the CMJ Hip-Hop charts, and his music has been featured on several compilations including Fool Blown with Aesop Rock & Atmosphere and Omid’s Beneath the Surface
