Up next in our Free Download series is Fassi's rework of the Jimi Jules smash "My City's on Fire".  This rework after his debut release for us "Desejo Luoco" alongside Brazilian vocalist Malvina Lacerda made quite the impression. 

Born and raised in Casablanca, Morocco, Fassi found his way to electronic music only when he moved to Montreal, discovering the city's eclectic club scene. After months practicing his craftsmanship as a DJ, he quickly saw himself warming-up for rising artists such as Lake People or Good Guy Mikesh, as well as playing in the same parties as top-notch performers like Recondite and John Tejada.His production talents have top now been recognised by labels such as Bar25 Music, Art Vibes Music and Motek to name three.

Rokia Traoré - Laidu (Le Croque Edit)

Iolanda Cristina Gigliotti, dite Dalida, née le 17 janvier 1933 au Caire (Égypte) et morte le 3 mai 1987 à Paris 18e (France), est une chanteuse et actrice italienne naturalisée françaisea.

Issue d'une famille italienne installée en Égypte, elle participe à des concours de beauté au début des années 1950 et tourne quelques films au Caire. Résidant en France à partir de 1954, elle connaît son premier succès avec le titre Bambino en 1956. Se façonnant un répertoire regroupant plus de sept cents chansons interprétées en plusieurs langues, elle devient une grande figure de la chanson française et bénéficie d'une popularité dépassant la scène francophone.

Parmi ses chansons les plus connues, figurent Gondolier, Come prima, Les Enfants du Pirée, Itsi bitsi petit bikini, Le Jour le plus long, Bang-Bang, Ciao amore, ciao, Le Temps des fleurs, Darla dirladada, Paroles... Paroles..., Il venait d'avoir 18 ans, Gigi l'amoroso, Salma Ya Salama, Laissez-moi danser, Gigi in paradisco et Mourir sur scène. Embrassant plusieurs styles musicaux, tels que le twist, la pop et le raï, elle est également une des premières artistes françaises à interpréter des chansons disco avec les titres J'attendrai et Bésame mucho.

Souffrant d’une dépression — en raison notamment d'une succession de drames personnels —, elle se suicide quelques mois après avoir été l'actrice principale du film dramatique égyptien Le Sixième Jour. Sa vie privée et sa mort font d'elle une icône au destin tragique.

Social Criticism in Lauryn Hill's 'Doo Wop (That Thing)'
Lauryn Hill's song 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' is an empowerment anthem and a sharp social critique, released in 1998 as part of her acclaimed album 'The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill'. The song addresses themes of self-respect, sexuality and the dangers of being carried away by appearances and materialism.
In the first verse, Hill speaks directly to women, warning them about the dangers of allowing themselves to be used by men who are only interested in 'that thing'. She criticizes the idea that women must conform to standards of beauty and behavior in order to be accepted or loved, mentioning 'hair weaves like Europeans' and 'fake nails done by Koreans' as examples of how women are pressured to conform to external standards. The artist also references religious and historical figures, such as Jezebel, to illustrate the consequences of straying from one's own principles and values.
The second verse is directed at men, criticizing those who prioritize material possessions and status over their responsibilities and relationships. Hill calls out toxic behaviors such as domestic violence and irresponsible fatherhood, and questions how these men can hope to succeed in life if they are not right on the inside. The song ends with a dialogue that reflects on the difference between love and being in love, suggesting that true love goes beyond the surface and accepts a person as they are. 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' is a powerful reminder that self-respect and integrity are key, and that we should be aware of the pitfalls of materialism and objectification in interpersonal relationships.
