MM Cast 02: COYOTE

Is it Balearic? Recordings' capos Timm Sure and Ampo have been on the "Balearic Scene" even before the word "Balearic" got fashionable some years ago.  They started as djs in the early 90's becoming residents at the historical "Venus" in Nottingham, it was in 2002 when they became producers and from then on they started producing tracks under the moniker Coyote, being responsable of notorious works signed on "International Feel", "Needwant" and "Music for Dreams" to name a few, and of course on their own imprint "Is It Balearic? Recordings"

Was in 2006 when "IIB?" started and since then, and a long with the sublabels "Über" and "Magic Wand", 15 years of pure Balearic Bliss where the "brithish-downtempo-maestros" have featured artists from the likes of Max Essa, Danielle Baldelli, Dj Rocca, Bonnie & Klein, Mori Ra and Anton Klint to name a few.

2021 has been a very prolific year for Coyote, delivering an amazing EP "Return to life" and another remixes ep of their LP "Buzzard Country", both records on "Is It Balearic? Recordings". They also have been working for MM Discos doing a magical rework of Bonnie & Klein's Albatros

The contribution of the Nottingham based producers to the scene is unquestionable and crucial, being a constant influence for dj's and producers who decided to move forward with the sound that artists like Dj Alfredo, Paul Oakenfold or Jose Padilla discovered back in the days from the "white Island" to rest of the world.

When we talk about their sound, a question comes to our head,,"Is it Balearic?", of course it is, but more than this, this is COYOTE Sound!!

MM CAST 02 - Coyote

Next up in our Record Club Guest Mix series are Sanctuary, the moniker of Ben and Liam, a DJ duo from Australia who have been living in Berlin for the past 9 years. You may be familiar with their 'Life Classics' project. It started as an output for their own edits then later branched out into a mix series and club residency at OHM in Berlin.

Their mix landed in our inbox and from the get-go we knew it was destined for the Record Club series. Covering many spectrums of soul, it masterfully glides through tempos and unleashes a quiet storm inside you. Not ones to fear a vocal, it's stuffed full of soaring voices, sweet strings and the tightest grooves. An extended blend done right!

The guys pulled from of a couple of record bags and served it up on 1210’s at their Berlin base. As they described it "back to back burgers, boozas and records all the way". 

The mix is loaded with many of their favourites and a few dusty ones from the back of their shelves. Look out for cuts from Reggie S, Stage Coach, Edwynn Page and Herby Charles. It's packed with winners, some you knew, some you do now. A real steppers' delight.

Mr Bongo Record Club Guest Mix - Sanctuary

026 The Tortoise

A big salty salutation from 'The Tortoise', who we humanly know as Torquhil Anderson - though we'd need to dry him off and double check his micro-chip.

For this mix we've been lucky enough to have the beloved man-creature pop out of his shell and onto the two sturdy ship wheels of the Waxflower bar-boat to serenade any passers-of-port with a few rhythmic full-mast high-torq shanties. Who knows what the tide will drag in!?

The Tortoise has been making house music for over a decade now, playing heat packed sets (the fire brigade we've personally witnessed on one occasion), and of course hanging out and around the Galápagos archipelago.
