Mechanoreceptor (@mmechanoreceptor) is a Brisbane-based producer that is originally from Tauranga, New Zealand. He builds upon a semi-fictional narrative overlapping sensory neuroscience and the sentiments of natural beauty to explore a hyper-dimensional world whose inhabitant reprograms the myriad of dynamically rich physical properties. He is currently working on his debut EP which is slated for release on Crazed Behavior. 

Wiremu acknowledges the Aboriginal people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which this work is created. Sovereignty has never been ceded.

Mechanoreceptor (Wiremu Hohaia) is a New Zealand DJ and producer, based in Meanjin (Brisbane), Australia.

Mechanoreceptor gravitates toward sonics reminiscent of antiques and spectral dynamics that pervade our environment from an intently romantic standpoint.

Portugal’s Ovelha Trax featured Mechanoreceptor’s first release back in June. Two guest-mixes shortly followed on the Dark Science Electro channel and Curb Crawlers Radio. Mechanoreceptor’s debut EP is expected to be released in the near future on @crazed-behaviour, featuring two surprise remixes.

For the 2022 Halloscream Mix, expect darker tones and displays of the electro genre with subtle references to German Expressionism, the Venetian jester, extra-terrestrial unknowns, and Gothic architecture.

Born in Aotearoa (New Zealand), Wiremu Hohaia is a visual artist, producer, writer, and DJ with a background in sensory neuroscience. Wiremu is currently based in Berlin, Germany. 

“Mechanoreceptor is a project I use to explore a semi-fictional world I call the Aviary. Here, sound is offered as a direct translation of the visual features, often interpreting such phenomena and objects as ceramic dust snowfall, bronze statues, light reflectance, and crystallised wind. As an artist, I enjoy romanticising the relationship between light and the objects it meets. Imagining how this relationship exists in purely auditory space satisfies my curiosity further.”
