Description: Demo of my new VCA module design that allows for manual and CV control of the balanced modulator allowing for VC morphing from no modulation through Amplitude Modulation through Ring Modulation.

Straight tone. Rolling 0-5V morph CV manually up and down. Mod source is a slow LFO

Same demo as before but using the LFO at an audio rate.

Using a short, ~1 second release Envelope to control the morph amount. Modulation is a slow LFO.

Same setup but, the modulation is an audio rate LFO.

Same setup. But, using a second EG to control the rate of the LFO while the Morph EG stays the same.

Using 8 stages of the SQ816 sequencer to do a simple line. First is just straight. Then I bring in the modulation. The 2nd row CV is controlling the depth of the modulation morphing while row 3 is controlling the rate of the modulating LFO from sub audio to audio rates. Those are done on every other stage.

Slowed down the sequencer. This time the mod depth is controlled by an EG with a release shorter than the note length. 

The modulation source is a second VCO. Later, I use another EG to modulate the pitch of the modulating VCO and just goof with the attack and release settings.

Performed at the Pac Northwest 2010 Synth meet in Renton, WA.
I played accoustic 12 string, Jason played bass. We both ran our accompanying modular synths with our feet :)

Quick demo of the MMM/Division 6, SQ816 sequencer. 
Highlighting the running mute. The running mute function kills the main gate when the button (or footswitch) is pressed.
The setup is two CV busses running two independent voice chains.
The B bus is fired from either the main gate or, from taps in the 2,3,5,and 7 stage gate outputs.
When the running mute is pressed, only the B voice chain comes through until the foot swith is released. Then, the main gate kicks in and all stages on both voice chains are triggered.

NOT a pro production. Just a quick recording while testing the system.

Programmed 16 channels in a chromatic major scale from C, up two octaves to C# on stage 16.
Set the C#'s in mute (stage 2 and 9) and left the channel 16 C# active.
Have a "Kick" generated on stages 1 and 11 with a "snare generated on 5 and 13.
Started in forward mode than, switched to Ping-Pong mode. I have SOS mode enabled (Start on Stage) which provides a double hit on the endpoint stages.
The strings are a bit loud but. The point was that it was in Ping-Pong mode while in C, running up and down the scale.
When I transpose to C#, I kick in the random mode.
When switching back to C, I kick it back to Ping-Pong mode. The sequencer re-enters Ping-Pong at the point and direction that it left when launched into Random mode.
Definitely not a pro production but, gets the control point across.

While Sam and I were figuring out Malaguena, We ended up with a bunch of just little "chunks" of things we jammed on. We decided to stick them end-to-end and figure a way to transition from one chunk to another and ended up with another 12 minute duet we called "The Call Home"
I'm playing the 12 string and Sam plays the 6-string. As usual, he does his part flawlessly :)

A totally improvised piece that Sam and I did one stormy, rainy day and, I happened to grab it on a cassette deck with an open mic in the room.

Hardly a pro recording. But, I added a thunderstorm sound effects to it to fit the mood of the day and it fit pretty well.

Storm

A track I did totally on Cakewalk usiing an old pentium 5 (it was new) with Windows 3.1.
I had the MIDI driving an Ensoniq SQ1+, an Alesis QS8 and an Alesis SR16.
I was facing some bad mojo in 2000 and used this to bring myself out of it.
It starts spooky and gets more enthusiastic as I climb out of my hole.

Everything was done by playing a few notes. quantizing, copying, pasting, transposing, etc. It was literally built in Cakewalk.

I worked. I felt better when I was done after 2 weeks....

Out of the fog

A bunch of people visited me one day in June 2012 and I had this patch set up. So, I played it for them.
It utilized my EML modular, two Mattson/ Division 6 SQ816 sequencers, and Alesis QS8 and an Alesis SR-16.
They wanted me to mix it and upload the recording I had made of it the night before. It took a while. But, here it is.
