Finnebassen - Rotundo

Speaking Minds return to Aeon with their first EP on the label, after a remarkable appearance as remixers on Dodi Palese’s ‘Black Drop Effects’.

This release starts off with ‘JSB’, a captivating and hypnotic affair enhanced by perfectly crafted delayed synths creeping out of the background. The constant darkness in harmonies and pads takes the listener through a brilliantly thought out progression and leaves them wanting for more after this 9-minute trip ends.

‘Yaoundé’ continues on this melancholic vibe, while bringing forward a more cinematic and even more chilling side from the Italian producers’ music. The main ambient lead develops beautifully, alongside many synth harmonies, and offers a contrast with a pushing drum section. This track is reduced to its essence, with crisp shakers and hi-hats bringing a drive to the intense atmosphere created by numerous harmonic layers.

Closing off this EP, ‘Paradise’ features a drunken melody evolving all through the track; a hook that is celverly completed by a pad halfway through. The arrangement, natural and flowing, makes every element of this trip shine, from the discrete chords in the background to the main synth line.

They return with 2 cuts of serious tastiness, and we start with 'Last Call'. This bubbling arp led monster oozes class, as its layers effortless merge in to a soundscape of hugeness! The clever vocal infectiously draws you in, before its key changing break is a dance floor 'moment' to raise the roof. this is big, don't say we didn't warn you!

'Second Sun' is a brooding moody gem that subtly unfurls its magic, before its graces us with a warm melodic riff and beautiful pads that rise and elevate this beauty, before unleashing a smile inducing moment of magic. Perfect for the summer.

Solomun's illustrious Diynamic Music celebrates ten years in the game with a brand new compilation from the label artists. A standout track in the Frenchmen’s captivating live sets over the past 12 months, ‘Chain Reaction’ finally drops after highlighting performances everywhere from Paradise at DC10 to Oasis Festival in Marrakesh. 

Led by an infectious hook-laden bassline crafted with the artists’ beloved MOOG Voyager, the track has been an evolving work in progress over months of tireless gigs and studio sessions, as layers of deep pads and effects have progressively been added to create this plump, rumbling beauty. 

The key to Rodriguez Jr.’s production is the ying and yang contrasts to his sonic aesthetic; on one hand they’re fiercely functional and deadly effective on the dancefloor, while on the other, their natural hook-driven characteristics mean they’re remembered long after the first play. 

‘Two Miles Away’ epitomizes this approach; a dizzyingly beautiful melodic gem that feels at once like it was custom-made to soundtrack a morning set, while its subtle toe-curling key change makes it a distinctive addition to his back catalogue. 

Of the track, Rodriguez Jr. says: “It was written and recorded in one night. I was just jamming on the Moog synthesizer and trying to do something with a solid drive, without losing a strong emotional side. It’s been inspiring to record in this spontaneous way, without thinking about the final result and just record in the moment.”

This time, Johannes Brecht has taken hold of his own original and offered his individual take on the piece. His classical training and a sharp ear for sound shine brightly all the way through.

The 'Voix Grave' release is out on November 18 and will offer the original as well as individual reinterpretations from both Johannes Brecht and Christian Prommer.
