After first gracing the electronic music world in April with the Here To Stay EP, five-person collective Scenarios return to their imprint next month. This time, founding-members Maga, Sean Doron and Yulia Niko team up on the Starlight EP.

Proceedings are brought underway by Starlight, with the title track manifesting as a piano-fuelled, emotionally-charged piece. It drifts between feelings of elation and hope, building through robust synths and warming key chimes to form seven minutes of club-ready bliss. Omana comes next, as stripped-back elements converge on spiritual-leaning chord solos, leaving us to meander through a stirringly beautiful soundscape. Both tracks embody the inherent values of Scenarios: to create and implement a unique genre of music, one that offers an unparalleled event experience.

Individually, they are known as Emanuel Satie, Maga, Sean Doron, Tim Engelhardt and Yulia Niko, each of whom are established performers in their own right. Together, they become Scenarios. As a collective, their beliefs and outlooks are shared - allowing them to truly grow as one whilst maintaining their individuality as independent artists. Their first release was met with widespread industry acclaim, garnering press support from Mixmag, proving that the collective’s combined efforts will be turning heads long into the future.

Born in France and now based in Portugal, Maga’s discography boasts releases on some of dance music's most widely recognised labels, including Flying Circus and Get Physical. Israel’s Sean Doron has found a welcome home on Damian Lazarus’ Rebellion imprint over the years, whilst his Monochrome event series continues to go from strength to strength. Berlin-based Yulia Niko has become a world-renowned artist in recent times, securing a residency at Watergate and producing acclaimed releases for Watergate Records, MOOD, Crosstown Rebels and many more besides.

MAGA & Yulia Niko - Omana [Scenarios]

Member of the RISE collective and label co-founder Hyenah returns to his RISE imprint this July with a debut album: Love In Times Of Crisis. The twelve-track LP contains twelve individual collaborations, featuring a global selection of artists.

The enigmatic producer spoke on his ethos behind making music, as well as describing the global context that brought about the LP: “Hyenah spreads the message of unity and equality, filling dancefloors with love and joining communities from Durban to Tokyo, Copenhagen to Sao Paulo. Whilst things may have come to a halt in 2020, the artist behind the visor continued to work on a musical vision: and now it’s about to be released. Love In Times Of Crisis is a collaboration with friends and colleagues from all over the world.”

The Rite begins proceedings, upping the tempo gently via tribal percussion and Sweden’s Ernesto & The Basement Gospel’s inspiring vocals before forthcoming single The Balance soon arrives. A collaborative effort between Hyenah, Canary Islander Pablo Fierro and South African spoken-word artist Lazarusman, it’s a club-ready number, perfect for delighting dancefloors thanks to electrifying synths and tension-building breakdowns.

Amazi Wakho is the only solo production on the LP, gifting us an insight into Hyenah’s world through minimal bass tones and subtle kick-hat pairings. Afrika Elektra then takes its place, as we welcome the late-great NYC linchpin Lamont Booker AKA eLBee BaD who delights us with an enchanting soliloquy throughout. Gifting us his last-ever song, he paves the way for The Message (Soul Version). Another promising collaboration, this time German-born poet Bajka reminds us that “they can’t stop us now”, inspiring listeners with her innately touching voice, whilst the rhythmic feel of Moood soon lands.

Another leading New Yorker, Patricia Baloge’s singing transports us to euphoric realms, as the track builds swiftly into The Manifesto. It bridges both Afro-house and melodic worlds, retaining an inherent late-night edge throughout, before This Is Your Love (Club Mix) sees Netherlands-artist and Crosstown Rebels inductee Nanghiti sing amongst delicate pads and a pulsing underlying bassline, opening neatly into You Can’t Hide. Chugging along with a natural groove, techy synths compliment the transcendent tones of ‘African Nomad’ and RISE co-creator Floyd Lavine.

Swedish crooner Ernesto & The Basement Gospel appears once again on Devil’s Advocat, as raw drums reside next to authentic, Afro-inspired percussion. Rain Queen acts as the album’s penultimate number, taking the form of a wonderful closing saga courtesy of RISE-regular G-Washington, whilst Life's Plan soon brings things to a close with Demetrius’ vocals leaving us warm, hopeful and inspired.

Hyenah is an artist creating musical transitions between African house music and the western scene. While creating his own signature sound, he has become a strong ambassador for diversity in the music industry. With his regular RISE events at Watergate in Berlin, Hyenah was one of the first people to push the sound in Europe and promote the movement by organising RISE showcases worldwide.

Movement being the key word here. It is not a solo undertaking: Hyenah is simply a part of the RISE collective. There is a togetherness in this community, one that isn’t governed by a specific head or individual. Each artist and clubgoer plays their part in growing such a scene, forming a common desire to develop as one unified body.

Love In Times Of Crisis exemplifies this mission, further raising awareness and helping to showcase different musical cultures. It allows the listener to appreciate diversity through music, empowering producers and building bridges between continents as a result.

Coming from a family of musicians, Fiona Kraft has always been surrounded by music and started to play piano when she was just a child. As a teenager, she modelled for some of the biggest agencies but also worked as a resident DJ in a club on a barge in Lyon named La Plateforme. Music production and the desire to express her soul followed in 2019 and after her debut single ‘Arenaz’ on Tinnit Music she has landed on the likes of Sudam Recordings. She has developed a distinctive style that blends an Afro house vibe with tight beats and has shared decks with Black Coffee, Miss Kittin, Guy Gerber and many more. This new single is a real celebration of freedom. “The Beat Of Freedom is my personal ode to getting back to normality," says the artist. "During the lockdown I wrote extensive lyrics about freedom and dance. After I wrote the synth lines and laid down the drums I asked legendary Italian vocalist Tanja Monies to sing over it.“ The single is deeply immersive, with lithe and elegant drums sweeping you up. Soulful synths dance above the drums and the spine tingling vocal elevates things to another level entirely.

MoBlack has curated a panoramic soundtrack for your ADE experience - to enjoy from amidst the Dutch capital or in spirit, anywhere in the world. This ten-track compilation is a tessellation of artistic synergy and cross-genre-pollination in true ADE fashion. Helming the VA at the front, Elias remixes The Provincials' "Saba" featuring Božo Vrećo's enigmatic vocals at the marrow. Paris' Ankhoï sustains the blissful vibes, debuting on the label with an uplifting dance litany, 'Hallelujah' before letting Martin HERRS take listeners on a wistful caravan to 'Ramot de Galaad' via clubland. Up next, Savito's seductive rhythmic poetry wafts gracefully through Alegria's ebullient 'Current,' followed by Alessa Khin's effervescent tantric groover, 'Santa Muneca.' MBR 509 pulses forward as Berkan and Orkun Bozdemir re-awaken the aura of the 'Lost Acropolis,' then immerses into the viscous progressions and undulations of Ways of Thinking's 'Antes Esperando.'
