On My Mind is a multi-faceted song, warm and melodic but also punchy and clubby. It is an accessible record that works just as well in a laid back listening setting as it does on a club dancefloor. Carried by a strong baseline, groovy percussion and several layers of melodic instrumentation, On My Mind captures the universal feeling of thinking about someone who’s left a mark on you. Lara Ahmal’s vocal is hypnotic, gradually building in urgency and emotion as the track unfolds.

The track is the product of a spontaneous collaboration between Rome and Kaimma, two close friends and producers based in New York. One afternoon, Rome shared the original idea with Kaimma, who immediately connected with it and brought new creative input to it. From there, the two spent long hours refining the track together in a Brooklyn studio. Since then, they’ve played it during shows – including live performances with Lara – and the crowd’s reactions have consistently reinforced its momentum.

The Saqqara EP is a multilayered, sonic canvas from the mind of Chris Barratt, as he launches his new alias, Barratt, for Life and Death. Fine brushstrokes move from all areas of his musical hideout, spreading over five, varied, aural sculptures, each one warping and weaving on its own cosmic trajectory. Pooling from key aspects of his Eagles & Butterflies project, Barratt induces new musical shades, hinting at moments of disco and funk, through a lens of psychedelia. 

The title track is a late-night floor-filler - a bold yet uniquely personal necropolis built from riveting delays and arpeggiators. Time Bending sees DJ Tennis join in, stepping up with his trademark, rough around the edges production aesthetic, en route to unknown destinations. Barratt hones-in on a confident, stripped-down style on Khaos - rhythm versus melody -  just in time for festival season. 1983 soundtracks a ride to utopia on a rocket-fueled Vespa, leading to Collider, the land of un-quantised madness, where the most treasured of synthesisers live amongst their drum machine counterparts. 

Flowing yet incredibly interconnected, Saqqara is best interpreted as a mini artist album - the first of many Barratt offerings.

Italian gentleman Musumeci returns to Engrave with a seven-tracker dedicated to the 'good ol' days' of arcade video games and thus it's no surprise that the EP goes by the name 'Arcade'. Musically the co-label founder delivers tracks whose features can be pinpointed to the 80s and, opposing to the retro influence, soundscapes that have dominated the electronic music scene over the past years. So in conclusion 'Arcade' is a versatile and multi-faceted piece of work. Aside from five own tracks Musumeci teamed up with Sisio and Phunkadelica for 'Where Are You?' respectively 'Labyrinth'. The latter certainly has a strong New Wave influenced vibe, as careful followers and listeners of Phunkadelica, might expect and are familiar with. However, Musumeci's inimitable groove and synth-pad-ish sounds go hand in hand with Phunkadelica's approach and create a musical symbiosis based on concord yet the contrasts have an inspiring virtue on each other.

Musumeci's 'Arcade' EP will be released on Engrave Ltd on September 13th, 2019.
