OVERVIEW:
Kondaktor, the Athenian producer who made his debut last year at Further
Records, releases music for the sixth Modal Analysis record. Signal EP includes two original tracks Signal #1 and Signal #2 which were created through the manipulation of field recordings, that are structured as a collage of sounds delivering a deep and claustrophobic sensation. On the other side of the record, Sawf and ANFS construct two versions of the tracks taking a more industrial and rhythmic approach to the existing works.

Description:
Following the experimental streak thrown down by our two released albums, Modal Analysis proudly presents Het Zweet – Archives Volume 1: 1982-1988, a compilation of the Dutch outsider legend painstakingly picked from over 100 hours of unheard tape. An early electronic pioneer who employed homemade percussion, wind, and string instruments alongside a few more modern pieces, mainly a Korg MS-10 and the tape recorder he used as his primary composition tool, Marien Van Oers occupies a lonely branch on the tree of this music’s early efforts. In sixteen pieces ranging from only seconds to well over ten minutes, we explore the full breadth of his accomplishments, from familiar pounding industrial grooves with vocals to ambient fragments and into extended, entrancing efforts bridging this gap but finding few parallels.

Most closely akin to Muslimgauze, Test Dept. or Fad Gadget, all musicians who shared his outsider practice while remaining thoroughly immersed in contemporary sounds that paralleled their own work, Het Zweet is striking for the diversity of his sound and for its meticulous composition, formed of carefully arranged layers of sonic detritus culled from his collection of homemade instrumentation and electronic distortions. Also included is a live document from February 1984 in his hometown of Breda, Holland, whose sparse crowd noise and raw phonics tell all too well the difficulties of his music then as now. Finally rising to greater exposure since his death in 2013 alongside similarly minded, now-departed contemporaries like Byrn Jones, whose works also prominently appeared on the Staalplaat label/zine, 2022 marked the high point thus far of Van Oers’ reevaluation. Modal Analysis passionately continues this mission with our first volume of archives dedicated to the memory of this bold innovator gone before his time.

OVERVIEW:

The seventh Modal Analysis release comes from Athenian producer and dj, ANFS. Following his remix for Kondaktor's Signal#1 , ANFS returns to the label with his debut release, "Ground", a four track EP which consists of original material. Borrowing sounds from early twentieth century folk Greek culture, the EP is dominated by a rhythmic canibalistic spirit and a noisy distorted cue. Ground#1 functions as an introduction, or rather one's initiation to the mystic rituals that prevail. The artist uses drones and distorted textures which increase in Ground#2
and are backed up by drums that beat in a hard-and-slow ethnic tonality. Ground#3 reveals a paroxysm of emotions which comes as a result from the combination of basslines and vocals that create a complex and twisted vortex. The trip ends with Ground#4, a more stripped down monotonic ensemble that serves as an epilogue and a catharsis.

OVERVIEW:

M.D.O.F. (Multiple Degree of Freedom) EP brings us to the 8th Modal Analysis release; an improvisation-noise extract from the studio collaboration between the Greek electronic producer Panos Kyveleas, (a.k.a. BIOMASS), and the Italian impro-noise duo R.O.M. (Alessandro Quintavalle/electronic bass & Luca Pastore/tenor sax). M.D.O.F.#1 presents a series of soundscape textures, blended with (processed) saxophone melodies. M.D.O.F.#2 and M.D.O.F.#3 are two very unique
noise/free-jazz sessions, including both bass and saxophone solos, along with distorted ambience. M.D.O.F.#4 is based on rhythmic bass themes and abstract electronic and saxophone sounds, fused into drone layers. All tracks were recorded and mixed at Music Trade Lab in Napoli (Italy) by Fabrizio Piccolo.

Overview:

Sonic EP is the second contribution of Sawf to the Modal Analysis catalogue.
The Greek producer, and core member of the Modal Analysis roster, delivers a mind-blowing 4-tracker with a clear intention to interpret an industrial-noise aesthetic from a techno perspective. Sonic#1 is a cut from the intro of Sawf’s LIVE set, offering a powerful combo of processed vocals and distorted soundscapes. Sonic#2 comes as a long and stepping beast that creates the uncomfortable feeling of a horror movie soundtrack. Overview:

The 10th Modal Analysis release is the second full EP of the label's co-founder, ANFS. Mass EP demonstrates ANFS unique sound aesthetics, offering tracks to satisfy the most demanding music-heads. Mass#1 is a sadistic composition of distorted percussions and basslines hitting hard in a slow rhythmic groove , while Mass#2 stands closer to the dancefloor thinking norms, without though leaving behind any of the creepiness of Mass#1. On the flip side, Mass#3 brings back the mood of a horror movie soundtrack, with bleepy riffs on the leading sequence. 07042016 (live at St.Paul's Anglican Church, Athens) is the debut album of Modal Analysis, brought by the Greek experimental band of MMMD (also known as Mohammad).
