Your Planet Is Next is the nom de guerre of one Arvid Wretman – multidisciplinary artist, live performer and noise maker from Stockholm, Sweden. Since his 2014 debut cassette under the YPIN alias, through two floor-optimised solo EPs for Studio Barnhus, this self-proclaimed “Mr. Music” has terrorised us with the most gloriously disturbed electronic funk, all while cultivating his puzzling YPIN persona: part failed pop-star, part extraterrestrial threat. On his first full-length release for Studio Barnhus, emotions range from acidic romance to pure paranoia. Rave, screw, electro and chill vibes are all combined on an album that plays like an exhilarating journey through the mind of a mad genius.

Prepare yourself for this 4 track release of sublime musical proportions which comes courtesy of Léna C; who’s Promenade E.P. transcendences the Smokey basements & subterranean dance floor dwellings we often inhabit. It’s all aboard the Zen-Express for this release that incorporates the musical & cultural influences this French born (but now Hebden Bridge based) DJ and music producer has experienced so far on her journey.

Shokran (from the Arabic ‘Shukran’ meaning ‘thank you’) is a breathy affair with hooky arp lines and a chest warming bass with almost playful synth lines joining in along the way. Percussion keeps up the chug factor but never derailing from its beauty.

Haku takes in the sounds of Japan with a hypnotic bass melody wrapped around soft synth stabs, soothing strings and a dream inducing percussion arrangement which when all wrapped up together is destined to be played/heard in the sun with waves crashing, breeze blowing & a mental reset taking place.

Breeze blows in (see what we did there?) & continues to take us into the unknown and cranks the audible wonderment up to 11. A broken beat carries spaced out synth lines & bass melody with skippy percussion which all sounds like it would be frantic but in Léna’s hands its a perfect delivery of aural beauty.

Azur closes off this trip in perfect harmony and we’d maybe even book this under the ‘balearic chuggers’ category (though the jury is out!). Hooky melodies with a warped vocal sample (which we think is Léna but she swears it isn’t!) and some truly uplifting synth & pads make this the only way to close off this stunning E.P.

Day 18: Maelstrom - Petrichor (Coyote Dub Remix)

Bep Kororoti & Akin debut on Modern Obscure Music with four Afro influenced tracks. Bep Kororoti released a self-titled mini album on Hivern Discs’ more experimental HVNX sub-label in 2016, but he is better known for making music as Kresy. Here, Kororoti is joined by Akin, who provides vocals and saxophone on this EP. Epomuyeñ is dancefloor cut with striking percussion and strong vocals, whilst Eruobodo is a sax dominated track. Ijotiya channels the spirit of Fela and Afrobeat over a spinning bassline, whilst Love is the only way has a deep spiritual vibe and a powerful vocal.

OM LP 17 - Tornado Wallace - Midnight Mania (mini album sampler)

These tracks were written and produced over the last week; a most unusally quick turnaround for me :) It seems isolation has caused a burst of creativity. The current lockdown also affected the feel of the music; these two tracks are quite sombre in tone but with a note of positivity running through them, hence the titles. Anyway, hope you like the music.

Jan Schulte aka Bufiman releases his drum rhythm versions from his latest Dekmantel LP ‘Albumsi'.

In his own words: “Hi, my name is Bufiman and I do drum music for world peace and dance music for frogs. I recently released a longplayer called ‘Albumsi' on Dekmantel. While doing the mix-downs for ‘Albumsi' I realized how much effort I had put in it and how it might even seem overproduced in comparison to other records of mine. This was the result of ‘Albumsi’ being in the first year after quitting all other jobs to focus completely on music. It was the first time I had a studio, some gear and time all at once, at the same moment. So during the mixing process I realized how carefully and loaded the drum tracks were, I even had unused leftover drum material… I also just found a Dutch record heavily inspired by the classic Jive Rhythm Trax with the name 'Mix Your Own Breaks - Construction in Music' with an accompanying text that inspired my idea to do some of my own rhythm trax versions: "The compositions on this LP only consist of rhythms and sound effects. They can be used as: a transition between two records, to be mixed as a break in between and for the production of jingles. Have a lot of fun with these breaks!" Or in Dutch, as originally printed on the record: VEEL MIX-PLEZIER MET DEZE BREAKS - Een multifunctionele LP voor Discjockeys, Thuismixers en geluids-amateurs.”

DC Promo Tracks #676: Gee Dee "Allenii"

“Music is a borderless language”
This is our gargantuan motto at Fauve Records.

With this mission statement arose a new project called 西 WEST & 東 EAST.
Born from the desire to link the world of the West & the East. The idea was to ask two artist/band to collaborate on a split EP, with one original track each and finally to remix each others’ work.

For Volume 1, it is with humble esteem that we present you to Mameen 3 (DJ SoFa & Cheb Runner) from Belgium/Morocco in collaboration with Dea (1/4 of Zatua/Music From Memory) from Indonesia.  We are extremely happy to launch the new series with this extraordinary collection of retro-futuristic club music.

First up is Mameen 3 with their original title “Dada Glitter”. A hypnotic burner that feels like the instrumental B-side of a fitness instruction song made by Ziad Rahbani's grandson in 2043. Wake up in utopia and find yourself high on XTC on a glittery Bellydance rave under the Moonshine of Djerbas beaches. An absolute sparkler faithfully signed: soFa & Cheb Runner. 

On remix duty of the previously mentioned track is the Indonesian future legend called Dea. After getting his hands on a vintage vocoder he pulled out all its magic blessing onto this stripped-down oriental-future-groover.  A highly forceful bassline and effectively simple punchy beats do justice to this cosmic vocoder-funk gem. With lush chords and modestly well done modular toms, he puts the cherry on the cake. A masterpiece in a back-alley illegal trafficking vibe with intimate curiosity!

On the flip side is Dea’s original piece “Mesopotamia”. Just when you thought you’ve travelled enough in this EP, the shaman takes it a step further by landing you on a planet where all genres live together in harmony. Classical, space odyssey, salsa, middle-eastern, you name it, the influences are endless. With a clean yet effective 4x4 analogue-sounding pulse, he handles a multiverse of emotions that will take you on the best drugless trip you can experience. 

Last but not least, Mameen 3’s “Rai Not Raimix” finishes the EP in style. Re-inventing the genre-less track by giving it an aspect of a sorcerer marching band. Amidst airy FM trumpets, off-groove claps and enthralled choirs the duo brings along the final smoky touch of this treasury of oddities.
