Seas Of Years - Lighthouse

The Unicorn in Captivity is a new musical piece that filled my spirit whilst viewing the massive and breathtaking medieval tapestry of the same name at the Met Cloisters in New York City. The tapestry is dated to circa 1495-1505 and is originally from the Netherlands. I have always been deeply in love and wholly fascinated with all things medieval, and this music is a direct product of this. The tapestry in person is quite esoteric and seems to radiate an ethereal and mystical energy. I almost felt as if I lost consciousness briefly whilst feasting upon it... or perhaps it simply transported me to a different time and place. In this new musical work, I have simply given the themes and harmonies that flowed through my heart that day as I first met the tapestry known as, "The Unicorn in Captivity..." In a way, I suppose a piece of my soul will always be linked with this ancient work of art now... I hope you all enjoy this music and its unique mystical beauty. Finally, I ask you all... what do you see? What does my music make you feel???

So it turns out I only went and wrote and recorded an album on my recent visit to California (I was there for much more important non-musical reasons).
The place and the company are very inspiring. 

The album, entitled The Village, will be released on double CD and download in December. Until then, you'll have to make do with this part of this track and the ridiculous photograph I actually took of the actual sunset. We don't get sunsets quite like that in Manchester!

INSPIRATION:

Can I give you a quick glimpse into the whirlwind mind of an independent musician?

It’s all about seasons. Last summer and into the fall, I was furiously writing a new Elskavon album, not to mention new Bora York songs with my wife, and Hi-Fi Cali collaborations and singles… For every album I release, which is typically around 9-10 songs, I end up with sometimes more than 50 demos and half-written songs. So there was a lot of writing happening. The ideas kept coming and the inspiration was heavy.

In September, I decided to set a release date for the new album, Skylight - this gives myself a deadline to actually call things done, and to get prepped for a release. From late fall on, leading up to that date (January 26), I was finishing songs, mixing and mastering the audio, working on artwork, studio and promo videos, show prep, social media content, reaching out for press and playlist possibilities, and more. There’s a lot of things on the independent release checklist.

In the midst of all this, I was about to step into a part-time freelance role, something my wife and I had been preparing for about a year. We’re very hopeful and excited about this season of our journey, which just started a few weeks ago. 

There has been a lot of things happening, and I’m grateful every step of the way. But I’m human and I get burnt out, as well. Last week it was tough to find any sort of inspiration whatsoever. And there was a definite setback regarding the new album - something I had been getting used to slipped away. It’s part of the process, and something I was fully aware could be a possibility. But it was still a bit of a punch in the gut.

'Fragments of Scattered Whispers' is the sixth album from Endless Melancholy, a solo-project of Oleksiy Sakevych from Kyiv, Ukraine. It follows previous releases on labels such as Preserved Sound, 1631 Recordings and Hidden Vibes. 

Arriving on CD, digital and heavyweight vinyl editions, 'Fragments of Scattered Whispers' is a collection of soft piano melodies and transparent ambient textures, gently flowing one into another. On this album Endless Melancholy continues with the tape sound explorations, started on his previous album 'The Vacation', but in a new, more distinctive way. On this occasion, Oleksiy teamed up with Krzysztof Sujata (known for his musical outfit Valiska), who did some outstanding job on processing the tracks through different kinds of tape recorders and mastering them afterwards. Accompanied by a stunning artwork by an acclaimed artist Gregory Euclide, 'Fragments of Scattered Whispers' is meant to evoke hazy reminiscences from the deepest corners of listener's mind, like a blurry photograph suddenly falling out of an old book.
