Canadian minimalist instrumental label Moderna Records presents their annual piano day collection featuring twelve pieces from composers and pianists around the world. Their 2023 compilation 'Fractals' is centred around the upright piano, with a curation focused on the label’s signature melodic minimalism. The contributions were selected with great care, while showcasing each pianist’s unique flair on the instrument. Fractals includes pieces from Akira Kosemura (JP), Hiroco.M (JP), Jacob David (DK), Eik Octobre (DK), Ole-Bjørn Talstad (NO), Julia Gjertsen (NO), Sten Erland Hermundstad (NO), Mike Lazarev (UK), Pêtr Aleksänder (UK), Jozef De Schutter (CH), Felix Rösch (DE) and Nat Bartsch (AU). The series is mastered by Tom Adams in the UK and set to artwork by UK designer Iain Perry.

We are thrilled to welcome Matthew Adam to the ad21 family! Today, we release his latest piano single, a piece that drifts through a mist of soft tones and melancholic serenity. With its delicate neoclassical touch, this introspective composition lingers like a gentle echo, inviting listeners into a world of reflection and tranquility. 

Matthew’s musical journey has taken him from drum performance studies at ACM Guildford to composing for major film trailers and TV productions. However, during a deeply personal time in his life, he turned to solo piano composition as a source of peace, one that he now shares with the world.

Buda - The Piano Book demo / 1911 Bechstein Upright

I grew up listening to and drowning to myself in ambient music world. I used to have visions, used to imagine an endless world of my own design and creation full of rain and clouds and beauty. As I grew older these visions stopped and I was forced to live without them for a very long time until recently, as I was falling sleep in a summer afternoon in my dark room, I had another vision. I was floating on the water in the ocean. Just water and nothing else. The sky was grayish blue and the sea was harsh. It made so happy. Maybe my old self is coming back to me. of course, not old me. The real me.

This is my first drone piece. I used a single guitar note a series of heavy sound processing for the loops.
