Having whet our appetites last month with his remix of Mace's "Jungle" (featuring Sofi De La Torre) for Ciao Records, Italian DJ/producer Sine One is giving away his latest track "Nothing" via Lucky Beard. Imbuing the footwork sound with a generous dose of Mediterranean heat, Sine One's "Nothing" pairs a frenetic drum pattern with dizzyingly vocals and warm, but unobtrusive, synths. And, since the sun is finally returning, it's capped off nicely with a jazzy melody for a hands-in-the-air, beach-ready apex.

Modern Ruin's newest signing is a newcomer to the burgeoning footwork scene who goes by the name Rootless.

Right off the bat, title track 'Da Fock' takes off with chopped hip hop vocals and a warm chord around which an addictive rhythm is built. 

'Say To My Face' pitches a female vocal like an instrument, peppering the track with a syncopated melodic progression, surrounded by frenetic hats and kicks.

'Stepper Lines' takes things deeper, kicking off with a wobbling rhythm that means business, before bringing back the head-nodding groove built around the meticulous percussion and melody you will come to know Rootless for.

Below Music’s second release is the result of a two-day’s journey that linked Seville and Malaga with one main purpose. Lots of cold beers during daytime turned into long nights inside the studio, creating these two tunes that complete this EP. 

These tracks complement each other despite both of them are built upon 140 bpm Amen Break rhythms. It is the lead bassline and the drums what becomes more important in the first track. It begins with ambient sounds created by a synthesiser that leads to the highest point of the tune. Some voices and a more psychedelic environment completes the atmosphere of it. 

The second track makes this EP more pleasant due to its melodic rhythm and vocals, used as chorus as well alongside trumpet sounds that establish the rhythm. This is a master piece, out of doubt, intended to make you move in the dance floor. It is not new the use of Amen Break rhythms on 140 bpm tracks, but it is unusual definitely. 

These Andalusian producers are trying to put these sounds together in order to make you enjoy.

La segunda referencia de Below Music es el resultado de un viaje desde Sevilla hasta Málaga en el verano de 2016 ... dos jornadas de mucha cerveza y sol durante el día , y largas noches en el estudio trabajando conjuntamente en las dos canciones que forman este EP. 

Las dos pistas del EP se complementan entre sí a pesar de que se asientan sobre ritmos Amen Break a 140bpm, ya que en el primer corte, el grave principal y la batería tienen todo el peso del tema, lo que comienza con un sonido de sinte mas ambiental que acaba apagándose hasta romper con voces y sonidos mas psicodélicos.

La segunda pista nos ameniza el EP, al tener más presente el uso de melodías y samples vocales a modo de estribillo añadiendo unas trompetas para marcar el ritmo. Sin duda es una pieza maestra con la que disfrutar en la pista de baile.

No es nuevo el uso de Amen Break en ritmos a 140bpm, pero tampoco habitual, por lo que estos productores de Andalucía apuestan por llevarlo más a escena.

While footwork culture originated in Chicago and is still primarily being championed by Chicago producers, DJs, and dancers, international artists like Marius Mevold AKA Slick Shoota have also been instrumental in bringing the sound to a worldwide audience by incorporating elements of other genres like jungle, drum & bass, and grime. His high-octane hybrid club productions are always recognizable by the frenetic pounding groove, rap and ragga vocal chops, and of course, his infamous “LET’S MOVE” tag. An official Teklife member since 2015, Slick Shoota has laid a foundation of strong underground relevancy, while also peeking into the more mainstream side of dance music here and there with a release on Diplo’s Mad Decent and a widely supported rave smasher bootleg of Hudson Mohawke’s “Cbat” that is still making the rounds on dancefloors and festival stages all over the world despite being released almost 7 years ago. For many electronic music fans getting more interested in uptempo dance music, Slick Shoota bridges the gap into the wonderful world of 160 bpm and beyond.

We’ve been huge fans of Marius’ work for the better part of a decade now, so it goes without saying that we’re hugely honored to have him on the Booms and Claps mix series. For “BnC Mix 042: Slick Shoota,” he delivers a 38 minute offering of club-ready originals, VIPs, edits, and remixes, many of which are featured on his most recent album release “VIP VAULTS.” The 20-track collection of largely never-before-heard tracks Slick produced between 2013 and 2018.
