I arrived in London in early ‘71 and landed on the Holland Road, Shepherd’s Bush not long after.
My good pal Julie Lewis (from Durham) with whom I’d worked with in Sydney, had digs there and invited me to stay. Nonetheless I found it a challenging place to be after Sydney, Summer, beaches, family and gigs. Amongst Julie’s record collection was Nick Drake’s 'Bryter Later' which brought solace to me as I often felt very alone and completely at a loss as to how to navigate London town.

Years later I was to learn that Freddie Mercury was living just a few doors down from us on the Holland Road...no I never knew him...but when I wrote the lyric it seemed apt to pay homage to Freddie and our collective dreams. I’m so happy with Cripple Club’s interpretation of the lyrics, bringing to life a musical collage that depicts the highs and lows of living on the Holland Road through my first cold winter! From my heart; thank you Terry & Gary Reeves; you are two soulful & gifted brothers; I feel so indebted to you both and to Hans Albers for his powerful musical contributions. ✨ Can you hear the nebular sounds? ✨ Analogue grit and silk from Korg ARP2600m arping and Arturia Polybrute on the lead voice. 

Recorded ARP2600m live by tweaking 5-7 sliders, then placed 8-bar parts to L/R channels in Ableton for more spacial movement. Lead tune is played on Polybrute's keyboard. Designed two Polybrute A/B presets and manually tweaked with Morphee controller. While DAW is playing pre-automated glide and filter sweeps. Arturia Pigments for colored pads and OB-Xa for nebular glitter. Basslines are Arturia Mini and Moog UADx. FabFilter Saturn2 saturation, ProQ3/C/L2, Arturia Intensity/Eternity, and Moogerfooger MF-104S. As always the new and a dozen other tracks are downloadable on my accounts, thanks!

The Quest for the Holy Dumpling is the second concept album from the Smoking Trout, a SoundCloud collaborative band started by me, Stonerjazz (Jeff), and Uziel in 2021. We build these albums by releasing one song at a time, so the story is a work-in-progress. This is the first track on the new album to contain words/lyrics so it's really kind of launching a new tale that we'll continue to develop over the next year or who knows how long! In addition to Jeff and Uziel, we were fortunate to be joined by TexMexShaman (Stephen) and Sonic Structures and Silent Stretches (Jo Richter). For me, this was a really rewarding collaboration and perhaps one of my favorite tracks I've been involved with. Thank you so much to all who contributed. Now Stu he claimed to know or knew the whereabouts of the holy condiment that grew only
just outside his windowsill (and was essential to the Dumpling's flavor)
where he lived ln another life with Mary-Ann his ex-wife
who left hm for a guy named Sid who was a maestro on guitar
and had a band that traveled wide and far
including Mary Ann, and Larry too

According to the legendary story of her life and suffering, Solina, daughter of noble pagan parents, learned about Christianity in her youth and vowed virginity. Because her parents wanted to marry her off, she fled to Chartres, where she lived in a monastic house dedicated to Mary. During the persecution of Christians under Emperor Diocletian, she was brought before his bench under the prefect Quirinus, confessed to be a Christian, resisted flattery and threats, and was thrown into prison, then sentenced to death and beheaded.

Christians buried Solina on the site of what later became the Abbey of Saint-Père-en-Vallée in Chartres. Many miracles occurred at her tomb through her intercession. Later her bones were placed in a gilded shrine.

John Meets The Devil (Act 1)

Piece inspired by romanticism in the city: love within concrete walls, poetry beneath artificial light...

Three vocal parts (translated lyrics below) became in very different moods in the songwriter phase, so I couldn't fit them in the same tempo. Working hard on transitions, I got the following solution:

Intro: ad libitum
A: 6/4 & 5/4 at 147bpm
B: 4/4 at 220bpm
C: 4/4 at 293bpm

Such ABC pattern is repeated twice, structured with some city scenes, and 2nd 'C' part includes a guitar soloing lesson by https://soundcloud.com/paco-ray, old friend of mine, technical consultor and personal luthier ;)

Modes About Me is a genre-defying trio from Niagara Falls, New York, known for blending alternative rock, pop, hip hop, and acoustic elements into a cohesive, emotionally charged sound.

The project began as a solo creative outlet for Mark, who started writing and producing music that didn’t fit neatly into one category. What started as a personal side project soon grew into something bigger when he recruited his childhood friends, Dave and Miller, both long-time musicians who shared his passion for experimentation and emotional honesty.

Together, the trio shaped a sound that thrives on contrast — heavy yet melodic, structured yet fluid, vulnerable yet powerful. Their music draws inspiration from the energy of Niagara Falls and the emotions of modern life, exploring themes of self-discovery, mental health, love, and resilience.
