Originally from NYC, I’m a 37 year old married father of two beautiful girls, I’m now down in music city (coincidentally, I was a musician when I was younger but no longer these days). Nashville is a great city for people passionate about music, it’s been incredible to live here. I’m an annual Bonnaroo attendee, and other fun fests I’ve been to are Coachella, Lollapalooza, ACL, Bonnaroo, EDC, and will be attending Bourbon and Beyond this summer.

I have an extremely eclectic taste in music. My musical journey roughly is as follows:

Dave Matthews Band was my first concert with friends and no parents. From there I got into classic rock and dipped my toes in the jam band scene. I went full send on Phish when I got into them and they were my favorite for years. Through Phish and all of their covers, I got into pretty much everything haha. Indie was a big part of my of life during college and my time living solo in NYC, and now I’m a fan of electronic music primarily.

If I had to state my favorites these days, my top three would be Four Tet, Radiohead, and Frightened Rabbit. My kids already seem to love music, they must take after their father!

Void and Ray — это творческий псевдоним Андрея Алексеева. Настоящий человек-оркестр, Андрей успевает всё: он и композитор, и поэт, и продюсер, и диджей, и шоумен, и дизайнер.

Псевдоним Void and Ray звучит практически как «Void Andrey» (Войд Андрей), но имеет глубокий смысл для самого артиста. По легенде, однажды Андрей вошел в состояние экстатического транса (без каких-либо веществ) и увидел себя лучом света в пустоте, которая была полна других лучей, с радостью и удовольствием летающих вместе в разных направлениях и пересекающихся друг с другом.

Андрей также чувствует внутреннюю энергию пустоты каждый раз, когда у него возникает потребность творить, так что это слово имеет для музыканта как психическое, так и практическое значение.

Андрей говорит на русском, английском, французском и китайском языках. Фонетика, графика, ритм и культура языков вдохновляют его время от времени создавать прекрасные треки на новых языках, как, например, «What a beat» на арабском (хотя некоторые мои друзья, говорящие по-арабски, говорят, что это красивая белиберда 🤣).

Так как не самое творческое прошлое Андрея связано с технологиями и финансами, он ведет шоу под названием «Risk Appetit» на своем YouTube-канале (ссылка ниже). Шоу посвящено нашим отношениям с деньгами и технологиями, а также тому, как найти баланс между творческой и коммерческой сторонами жизни.

Void and Ray is scenic name for Andrey Alekseev. Man in many hats, Andrey does it all: composer, poet, producer, DJ, showman and designer.

Void and Ray phonetically sounds like Void Andrey but has a deep meaning for the artist. The legend tells that once in a while Andrey got to ecstatic trance (without any substance) and saw himself as a ray of light in the void which was full of other rays who enjoyed flying together to various directions intersecting with joy and pleasure. 

Andrey also feels internal void energy each time when there is an urge to create so that word has both psychic and practical meaning to the musician.

Andrey speaks Russian, English, French and Chinese. Language phonetics, graphics, rhythm and culture inspire Andrey to create beautiful tracks in new languages from time to time, like “What a beat” which is in Arabic (but some of my Arab speaking friends say that this poetry is beautiful gibberish 🤣).

As Andrey’s not so creative background is in Technology and Finance, he runs the show called Risk Appetit on his YouTube channel below. The show is about our relationship with money and technology and how to find balance between creative and commercial sides of life.
