Hailing from the hardened landscapes of Russia, he has made a name for himself as a top purveyor of deep, dubby grooves that uplift into insight. While some artists work towards advancing their egos, others function more as a backbone, supporting music culture and giving it a foundation to grow. Our next guest, Sabine Hoffman, is most certainly the latter mentioned. With an infectious passion for vinyl and an immense musical knowledge that encompasses all subsections, she has been enchanting listeners and building support systems in her hometown of Berlin for years. Her event series "Frauengedeck" spotlights the female and non-cis talent around her and provides a platform to lesser-known artists. Whether you see her in her element in many of the renowned clubs in Berlin or working behind the counter of OYE record store in Neukölln, Sabine is sure to greet you with a smile and some seriously good records. In times such as these, it is imperative that we swiftly come together as a community to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and amplify the voices of the unheard. The time for action is now, and musicians have a responsibility to acknowledge and pay tribute to the rich heritage of the music we hold so dear. Therefore the Unrush team has asked friends and collaborators to contribute some stunning musical works to the first edition of The Unrush Files. Entitled "Rush of Communion", this various artists compilation embodies a collective effort to support those who are fighting at the front lines, risking everything to facilitate lasting and meaningful change in a fundamentally unjust society. 

All proceeds from this compilation will be donated to the Detroit Justice Center, which is a national nonprofit organization that pays bail for people in need, reuniting families and restoring the presumption of innocence. This essential work can not be understated, as police have arrested more than 10,000 peaceful protesters who were speaking out against systemic racism in response to the killing of George Floyd. It is only when we work together, by both looking inwards and lending our efforts outwards, that we can begin to manifest a new world built on the principles of equality and justice.

A myriad of tones, colors, and figures descend around a central point, encircling themselves into a focused dance of abstracted precipitation. Such is the kind of stimulating, autumn-mirrored imagery offered up by our next renowned guest, Zadig. While known primarily for his distinguished brand of dubby, Detroit-tinged techno on his label Construct Re-Form, anyone who reduces him to this simply has not been listening. His recent record for the Ukrainian imprint Rhythm Büro exemplifies his many facets, with refined ambient, synth, and downtempo passages lulling one into ecstatic states. It's this kind of diversity we seek, and it's an honor to have him contribute to UNRUSH. So put on some headphones, kick around some leaves, and enjoy the last golden rays of semi-warm days before the darkness subsumes us.

Autumn Serenade

One of the great powers music has is to synchronize our senses with a specific place, time, and feeling. Anja Zaube utilizes this aspect well, whether it be through her blissfully cathartic DJ sets or her intentional and well-executed live sets. Here we are presented with the latter,  an excursion into the depths of Anja's personal sonic universe that brings us into the elements and out of the body. Layered with thickets of field recordings, live synth work, and delicately pulsating percussion, it plays as one long-form piece that gradually shifts and seduces the mind. With close ties to ://about blank and the Berlin underground, Anja channels a certain mystique and sound that is characteristic of all that goes on here. So lose yourself in this special live edition of UNRUSH and feel time start to slip away...

If you look hard enough, you can find infinite detail in any minuscule sound. Our next guest, Roma Zuckerman, is an expert at extracting these details and pulling them apart to reveal their true complexity. Originally hailing from the subzero climate of Siberia, he is no stranger to the frozen ethos of Russian electronic music. With releases on renowned labels such as Nina Kraviz's трип, he has gained a following for his refreshingly off-kilter productions and mixes. As this particularly difficult year comes to a close and we take a moment to pause and reflect, he guides us through our inner conflicts to bring a sense of peace and gratefulness. From all of us at UNRUSH, we'd like to thank you for the continued support and wish you a good start in the New Year.
