I like the sense of urgency the track creates :)

This is a something in between a re-mix and a re-make of an old montage piece based on recordings of electrostatic generators that I made in Teylers Museum (Haarlem), and sounds I designed around that. The piece was left out of the actual series of pieces ('Beauty Sleepers') performed there as part of the Toon festival in 2001. The re-make/re-model version was made in loving dedication to my father who passed away on January 24th 2022.

Disquiet Junto Project 0591: The Loneliest Number
The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Last summer, after an accident, I had to stop playing double bass. This is my second attempt to get back to the instrument after months of silence, I thought this could be a nice opportunity to share the process and slowly start to get my hands on it to see how it feels and how my body responds to playing.
Focused on improvisation, gesture, silence and number 7. 

7 seconds of music are followed by 7 seconds of silence. 14 seconds of music are followed by 14 seconds of silence. 21 seconds of music are followed by 21 seconds of silence. Repeat and then decrease time until the last 7 seconds of silence.
Loosely based on recording pre-count at ~ 60.50 bpm 
No timer was used during the process, so there may be irregularities.
I only played my double bass open G string with a bow.
Added some slight Mimeophon delay-modulation then a bit of chorus + phaser + tape effect (encoderaudio Ferro) in Ableton Live.
I kept volume low in order to make it possible to work on it and mix further things for future use.

Disquiet Junto Project 0601: Hard Six
The Assignment: Let a roll of the dice determine the relative prominence of various parts of a track.

Basically made six tracks filled with different loops of about 20 seconds. Randomly chose between 1-6 for each track to determine how many loops would appear.  Then organized the result in a way that seemed to work compsitionally.

I think this track is a failure, maybe not to the assignment, but to my expectations. A random word  generator gave mit the word „arise“, which I loved. My idea was to get the relaxed mood across of getting up on a lazy Saturday, waking up slowly, getting out of bed and getting started with the day. 

The track starts with a dreamy shortwave recording rising in pitch and drenched in reverb, then adds an organ at a slow pace. After a break, things start to get moving, more lines are introduced, finally the drums kick in… but as the track might be something I’d listen to on a Saturday morning, I couldn’t translate the music in my head. It’s just too flat. Still, fun was had ;-)

Disquiet Junto Project 0602: Choice Words 
The Assignment: Make a piece of music that strives to express a specific word.

Step 1: Choose a word — either a favorite word, or one at random from a dictionary, a book your reading, or any such source.

Step 2: Compose a short piece of music that expresses that word as best you can. Perhaps it communicates an underlying concept, or follows the shape of the word when spoken, or utilizes it as an extremely short lyric. Come up with your own approach, which might be determined by the word, rather than imposed on the word.

Eight Important Steps When Your Track Is Done:

Step 1: Include “disquiet0602” (no spaces or quotation marks) in the name of your tracks.

Step 2: If your audio-hosting platform allows for tags, be sure to also include the project tag “disquiet0602” (no spaces or quotation marks). If you’re posting on SoundCloud in particular, this is essential to subsequent location of tracks for the creation of a project playlist.

Step 3: Upload your tracks. It is helpful but not essential that you use SoundCloud to host your tracks.

Step 4: Post your track in the following discussion thread at llllllll.co:
