The latest Métron Musik Mixtape is something of an unusual treat. Not much is known or written of UK based artist Ishq, and fittingly his music is as hard to pin down as the artist himself. It’s therefore an honour that he was willing to provide us with this mixtape, a 90 minute exploration of unexplored aural pastures - showcasing old and new music from the mysterious producers wonderfully rich and beautiful discography. Within it Matt Hillier spans the depths of planetary oceans, searches the far reaching vacuums of the cosmos and prods at rarely accessed parts of our own reality.

‘Ishq’ roughly translates as ‘love’ but the word is used in Persian and Arabic literature with a broader definition, a relationship between man and its creator. There’s a sense of the divine and spiritual in the 90 minutes of music here. The Cornwall based producer taps into something seemingly larger and more cinematic than our every day existence. Somewhere out there that we kind of know but rarely visit. 

Turn it up, close your eyes, and explore his world.

Second Travel. Sophie is the half of the marvelous SpatzHabibi and co-founder of the Label Polychrome Sounds. She delivered for the "Night Travel on a Blanket Show" a pictorial set. Based on the "Inventions for Radio" of Delia Derbyshire, Sophie gives us through this story the pigmentation of the sounds. The darkness of the gloom is now a wander into a night filled with stained dreams.

Today we are featuring a Headphone Commute mix by James Heather, who has recently appeared on our pages with his beautiful solo piano album.

"For this Headphone Commute mix I decided to focus mostly on the ambient for the first time. It’s filled with mainly new discoveries and a few old tracks that have never quite left my ears. The theme is peace. I have recently been fascinated by books and documentaries about a woman named Mildred Lisette Norman, from her 40’s she became a spiritual teacher, mystic, pacifist and activist. She renamed herself ‘Peace Pilgrim’ and proceeded to walk non-stop for the next 28 years, somewhat idealistically but admirably she vowed to “remain a wanderer until mankind has learned the way of peace.” Her words can be heard at various points in the mix."

Here, all possible and impossible are tightly knitted together, creating kaleidoscopic patterns ... What a sacred place ...

Images of animals, people, stars and distant planets performing the dance of life appear before his eyes ...

Where is he going to go now? Which direction to follow? Is he going to go right? Left? Go up or perhaps, all the way down?

He closes his eyes ... Deep inhale followed by slow exhale ... Doors of perception open up slowly. Gentle lull of solitary meditation reveals a clue that puts everything in place :

- “It's not so much about the direction, but why you stick to it” ...

The moment his eyes gently blink open ... He chooses love ...

Modyfier is an Artist’s platform: it’s an idea acting as energy, it’s an experiment in accrual (as a collection), it’s an attitude that rides creativity and freedom. The Process Series relies on referral as people who participate each suggest someone else, creating its form, shifting in directions I would not be able to steer alone. Matthew Barney once said this about his early ‘Drawing Restraint’ work that really struck me: “I was thinking about how the body functions in training – how the muscle breaks down under resistance and then heals larger and stronger. I was trying to use that process of resistance to create form.”
