This is a live recording, captured at Ego club in Düsseldorf, June 5 1999.  The music has been created with a self written step sequencer, the PX-18, controlling  a basic sample player and effects engine, all done in MaxMSP, running on a Powerbook G3. The step sequencer had some unique features, e.g. the ability to switch patterns independently in each track, which later became an important part of a certain music software.

I found the recording on a backup disk today. It has not been edited or mastered. During the first 20 minutes of the set, and before the 'encore' the Monolake CD 'Gobi' is playing in the background.

I was very pleased when Dustin Morris from Vancouver contacted me and asked me to conceptualize the next Dewtone Podcast. This truly is a great honor, since I´ve been a listener of Dewtone Radio from day one, and still am a big fan. Dustin´s taste for Ambient, Electronica and Deep Dub Tech House at his radio station and same-titled Label still pleases me to this day! I am a big fan. So hereby I reply and thank him with a conscious selection of an electronic subgenre of dreamy Ambient, abstract Electronica and Deep Dub Tech implied Tracks, which are arranged in 3 phases. Came across P.E.A.R.L a while back now and have been really enjoying his mixes when I fancied something with a bit more attitude and oomph. Dark and deep with a good variety of sound to keep things interesting. I am very happy he chose to join up on the series.

He started his relatively new label Falling Ethics, based in Berlin. And his latest release "The Fall of Because" represents everything I enjoyed about his style. A broken beat roller chugs along nicely with Sorrows delivering the same vibe in a more dancefloor based stomper. On remix duties in non other than Oscar Mulero and a trippy rolling number by The Transhumans.

Little Helpers Mix

Rachel Lyn has been getting more and more deserved recognition for her work, with the likes of Richie Hawtin spinning her track ‘Flower Parts’. She has recently collaborated with Pig & Dan, and had her track ‘Citrine’ remixed by Kris Wadsworth, which has received some heavy support from Radio 1. A close associate of labels like Terminal M and House Republic and with a recent feature in DJ Mag, she is certainly one to watch and we cannot wait to have her down.

She joins on-the-rise promoters We Concur on a huge New Year's Day event at London's Oval Space. Topping the bill is Data Transmission favourite of 2014 Nina Kraviz, who, along with Southampton's Alan Fitzpatrick and special guest, will get the New Year rocking.

Aaaah finally.

In a period where I was dangerously close to losing all interest in the techno scene. When I really start questioning why and for what reason I have been doing this. Amongst all the self-indulgence, commercially obsessed promoters, "exclusive" clubs and elitist underground nonsense attitudes, I didn't expect looking at secondnature's website to change my mood so much.

Modest, genuine and above all represents, to me at least, the fundamental reason behind this type of music. A real interest to just get the music to the people. Josef Gaard was my route to discovering secondnature and his mix was equally open and full of interest. Easily my favourite of the podcasts I have released in recent times and did enough to knock me back on track, with some really inventive tracks full of depths and character. I seriously recommend checking this and the whole of secondnature out.

Top stuff.

Second wave Detroit techno icon Carl Craig is no stranger to weirdness. Of his whole generation, he's always the guy who takes things that little bit further, stranger, more abstract. So when Swiss veteran Mirko Loko (Cadenza, Desolat, Planet E, Visionquest) offered up remix duties on his minimal-tech groover "Kolor" from his upcoming Color Plan EP on Cadenza, Craig took the opportunity to make not one, but two separate remixes.

Modyfier is an Artist’s platform: it’s an idea acting as energy, it’s an experiment in accrual (as a collection), it’s an attitude that rides creativity and freedom. The Process Series relies on referral as people who participate each suggest someone else, creating its form, shifting in directions I would not be able to steer alone. Matthew Barney once said this about his early ‘Drawing Restraint’ work that really struck me: “I was thinking about how the body functions in training – how the muscle breaks down under resistance and then heals larger and stronger. I was trying to use that process of resistance to create form.”
