DENT | A new contemporary techno focused project / club night @ Laruche, driven by Jamie Grenenger & Craig Piper. I was excited to get the call up to do the closing hour after Paul Abad ( Earth Frequency Festival) for the 2nd instalment of DENT. Expecting to rinse it hard I was armed with ( i thought) a playlist of driving loopy techno. Only to find when i plugged my stick in, the file wasnt there. Fortunately I had a bunch of techno on there and away I went, on the fly. Unable to record the set. Ive re/ mixed/ created it live last night on my radio spot on essential clubbers uk. Using 2 x technics 1200s and an S9 mixer instead of the cdjs and xone 92 mixer. Anyway..blah blah...hope you like the tunes. I still had 7 tracks in the last 20mins, so i pushed through a few faster towards the end then what i played on the night. Overall its pretty dam close ! ha

DENT_002 Set @ Laruche Nov 22

This mix is a collection of my favourite artists that inspire me musically, and a showcase of the original roots of House music, stemming from Chicago and Detriot warehouses in the 80's. House music is Black music. My roots from Durban, South Africa and my musical influence from my father has led me to develop a keen ear for the US house music you will predominately hear in this mix.

This mix is a discovery of the soul, telling a story, starting with worldy dub floating into lush jazz and smooth grooves of deep house. As the mix progresses, flavours from my recent trip to Europe and my record store finds have snuck their way into this mix.

[Track 3 + 12] Rick Wade is a maestro of his craft - his music invokes a sense of belonging and peace for me; he has been able to translate how I feel in my soul into music. From the depths of deep house and pure house, his music brings the feelings of so much joy. The sounds of Detriot.

[Track 5] Delano Smith, one of the godfathers of Detroit in my eyes, has influenced my musical journey to the point his tracks are in nearly every mix I have ever made. Currently battling with cancer, his legacy will live on for generations to come.

[Track 6] Fred P - there isn't too much I can say about Fred - you can hear it in his music.... everyone wants to be as deep as Fred.

[Track 10] This Chez Damier record was originally released in 1993, and it was a huge mid 90's house jam that was played week in week out at the Sound Factory in New York.

[Track 13] This Javonntte track is one of my all time favourite records in my collection.

This is no better feeling than pulling out a vinyl record and knowing you travelled to the record store, spent hours digging, transported the record home and being about to drop the needle on a piece of wax that contains so much soul. Playing records is deeply embedded in house music culture; having a physical connection to the music is so important to me and allows me to feel something that can't be reproduced.

Episode 11 calls upon another Brisbane-based legend, and mentor to many, Jimmy Ellis.

The Meanjin mainstay presents us with a 2-hour mix showcasing a condensed evening of dancing reminiscent of nights like Music We Love at Black Bear Lodge. The idea was to create something with a slow take-off, hit peak, then finish with a nice landing. It's a journey meant to be felt, not described. This one's an ears-only affair.
