"In the bleak midwinter" has always been my favorite Christmas carol.

Gustav Holst’s setting of the text is both haunting and uplifting. I find mild amusement in the fact that Christina Rossetti’s poem, on which it is based, somewhat stretches credulity by suggesting that baby Jesus was born amid a period of heavy snow and subzero temperatures in Palestine. That would have been mentioned in the Bible, right? In all seriousness, what we have here is a poetic conflation of the biblical Christmas story with the Little Ice Age—a Dickensian image of a snowy English Christmas. It's a potent combination that endures to this day.

The track was recorded in 2009, around the time of our Mashpop and Punkstep album, but we’ve never released it before due to the inherent tension between Christmas songs being seen as novelty songs and electronic artists needing to maintain a certain "cool." Now that I’m older and generally don’t give an F anymore, it’s clear that half our catalog is a joke anyway—and that’s precisely what is cool about us, depending on your perspective. Plus, fans keep asking us to release it. So, here’s the damn song at last.

It was created as a commission for The Sims computer game team. We made one version in English and another in “Simlish,” a nonsense language designed to mimic the sounds of the English lyrics. With all the reverb, the two versions sound nearly identical.

The Sims team originally wanted us to record "Jingle Bells" because they didn’t know this song and thought it was too somber. I called them Philistines, told them we don’t do somber around here, and stuck to my guns.

The vocals, credited to The Camden Choral Collective, were essentially performed by those bastions of British Christmas, the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge. Operating here under an independent guise they set up after collaborating with me on the BBC Electric Proms with Dizzee Rascal, the group disbanded shortly afterward. I attended King’s College myself and knew members of the Choir well. I take a certain pleasure in having integrated their precise clarity and emotional nuance—cultivated under the renowned Stephen Cleobury—into some dumb electronica. Cleobury himself would have neither understood nor approved of it, yet to me, the combination is deeply satisfying.

MofoHifi has always had a history of happily signing totally unheard of acts just because we like the sound of their track. It's gone quite well. We managed to sign tracks by Avicii, Phonat and grammy winner Alizzz using this process! London-based ZAKKY DEE is the latest new act to join the family with his groovy and stylish disco house number Under The Stars.

So imagine a three-way between the Rolling Stones, a dancehall MC, and an electro-house banger... Actually, scratch that — no need to imagine. Here it is.

This is the kind of feel-good culture clash only The Young Punx could pull off.

Front and centre is the larger-than-life Spoonface (aka Elroy Powell), who improvised the vocals in under a minute in the booth. Yes, the man’s been in EastEnders and Star Wars, and he sang the Black Legend hit “The Trouble With Me.” Oh — and there's even a Lego mini-figure of him.

Add to that some swaggering guitars from Rob Harris (Jamiroquai) and drums from Alex Reeves (Elbow), and you’ve got a serious genre-mashing party starter.

“So So Right” is the teaser single from The Young Punx’ long-awaited fifth studio album WPUNX, coming later this year... if they ever finish it.

Following their 2023 streaming hit “Kiss Of Life” (3M+ streams), The Young Punx and Lexa Hill return with their fourth collaboration — a soulful summer house track built for sunsets, cocktails, and moments of quiet connection.

“The One With The Flute” is a sun-drenched, laid-back house groove with a twist: soaring, improvised flute solos from internationally acclaimed jazz flautist Gareth Lockrane, layered over deep, warm beats and shimmering textures.

The track also features a powerful spoken-word breakdown by long-time Young Punx collaborator Steve M Smith — a former member of The Drifters — whose rich voice delivers a moving meditation on the power of music to transform:

Despite a long-running and fruitful creative partnership, Hal Ritson (The Young Punx) and Lexa Hill have never actually met or spoken — their collaboration is a testament to how shared musical instincts can transcend distance and language.
