After Volume 5 of our Various Artist series „Lost Tapes“, AEON continues with a strong EP from family member, Jepe. The Portuguese born, Berlin living DJ & producer returns with „Ginevra“, after his well received debut EP „Restless Soul“ in 2020.
Ginevra... a queen, woman and a city. Jepe says: „The track is somehow an Ode to Europe women and the beauty of the city“, to which he traveled to with his wife and daughter. „The arpeggio and the strings bring you back to the XVI century of classical music“, he claims, „while the break and its synth take you to the modern and technologic part of the city." 
Transcord - the secret A-side - of this diverse EP brings back 80ies/Italo influenced sound, though with a modern feel. For this track, Jepe teamed up with his mate Joal. The strong synthesizer sequence - slowly building up by layering more and more Oscillators - set the fundament for this grooving Dancefloor beast, while chopped vocals and chords gives this tune the last polish to be a weapon.
The EP is closed with „Salicornia“. The track is named after a plant that grows on salty waters. Same as the plant the tune is flowing in a more calm, but not less affective way. Different than „Ginevra“ & Transcord“ it has a more mystic vibe, diving in deeper areas of your soul, letting you float between the moods of mornings at the end of a club night.

Midnight Operators is back with a fresh release by young talent Time To Sleep. Karlo Pavlović is an electronic music producer from Pula, Croatia. Growing up with his father's music in various genres of music ranging from trip hop to noise, Karlo infuses his own melancholic, and at the same time happy sound into his productions, not being overly obsessed with genre definitions. One day he might even make some jazz. 

The release is including a very special collaboration with @localsuicide and two fantastic remixes by one of our favorite Mexican duos @zombiesinmiami and lovely producer @tony-mukke. The release is exclusively available in Bandcamp.

PREMIERE / Alemao - Discoacuerdo (Original Mix)[Sinchi]

Hailing from Munich, Alemao has been on the road for quite some time now. In his more-than-a-decade-long journey, he has not only lived but also rocked the boat in many European cities, always focusing on delivering high-quality dance-floor-oriented electronic music without respecting boundaries when it comes to fusing and twisting his many an influence. Cosmic Afro, Cosmic Disco, Trance, House, Techno… everything he has ever got in touch with is there, somehow, in his still not abundant but creative output.

In his debut on Quixotical Records, the cool Vilnius/Buenos Aires-based label steered by Poulper (SXDNS146/FREEDL028) and Aurum Miles, his “Rawheit” EP proves the point and showcases the capabilities of the skilled artist. On the remix duties, Favio Inker, Rem's Martinez (SXDNS108), and Yellowteeth.

The track we were solicited to review/premiere pays a tribute to the groove. In French, not in German as expected, though. “Et Boum! C'Est Le Groove”, despite a certain minimalistic atmosphere, gathers many elements that enrich the theme. Arpeggiated synth layers, ominous stabs, rhythmic leads, and percussive elements get seamlessly together to deliver a hefty and well-constructed cut.

“The Straussian Method” is inspired by the belief in the almost infinite malleability of human kind “The Straussian Method” was born restless. Dragging basslines from the sewers and dripping sultry acid lines from the ceiling, TSM condemn those who live in a world of illusions and self-deception.

“Rhetorical Procedure” is a simulation, is the form of the future that deals with what may happen. Sharp snares and eloquent pads set the perfect canvas for the acidic brushstrokes in desperate need to establish that change is possible.

Aheadacheaday Remix of “The Straussian Method” brings the raw breakbeat drum-work with his electro remix on “The Straussian Method”. Based on cynicism and irony to critique his surroundings, distorted bass lines take control to expose the filthy shame of mortals).

Known for his works on Running Back and Dischi Autunno, Chinaski’s Remix brightening of “The Straussian Method” occurs when he takes the rotten elements from the original version, and by a process of RetroSYNTHesis, he sets the High Energy vibe and gives us back the faith in humanity.

Destination Madrid: Penrose Records founder David Ponziano returns to the controls with two high voltage originals and remixes from Alvaro Cabana & Julian Sanza and Undo…

‘Blindfold’ taps into a vibrant, poppy, synth-heavy sound. Sitting somewhere between Kraftwerk and Underworld with an added vocal call to action, this pushes all the right buttons with an unrelenting groove and strong sense of triumph running throughout. Remix-wise these elements are flipped into a deep cosmic chug as 2020 Soundsystem / Silver City maverick Julian Sanza and Holographic Planes’ Alvaro Cabana go dark mode with an absurdly powerful and heady workout. 

The work continues with ‘Where You From?’ A dramatic slab of bleep-fuelled tech that’s reminiscent of the mid 90s German Tresor sound. Rising and rising with tension and just the right amount of theatre, this one asks all the right questions and your dancefloor will guarantee a reaction. 

For a deeper perspective head to Undo’s remix. A foreboding and stern take that nods to the legacy of Black Strobe, this one pulsates with tension as we march into the future. It’s a reminder that things aren’t always about where we’re from… It’s about where we’re heading.

Prowling into club season with intent, Darkroom Dubs usher in the long nights with this powerful two-tracker from Alvaro Cabana & Fargo Devianti. Please welcome ‘Los Flagelantes’.

Madrid meets Guadalajara on a mission of deep, pulsating 3 am funk. This transatlantic link-up has been brewing since Rotten City bossman Alvaro signed rising talent Fargo’s 'Storm In A Teacup' EP with Vongold last year. A tense lesson in stark late-night electronica, the release follows a selection of resounding outings from Fargo on Hard Fist, leading to these two dark disco dispatches, ‘Flagelantes' and ‘Tacha'.

Two sides to a unique sonic story, both cuts come with their own deep inspirations and conceptual ideas. 'Flagelantes' takes us back to medieval foundations when a fanatical underground sect sought penance through pain. Los Flagelantes were a strict disciplinarian brotherhood that welcomed whipping as a means to resolve their sins. Seven hundred years later, the only flagellation required now is to whip your dancefloor into shape, and with its stalking nature and stark peaks and troughs, this will most certainly do that. 

‘Tacha' follows suit with a much more chaotic dynamic. A hearty nod to the post-punk, dark wave 80s sound, especially the influential Parálisis Permanente. They soundtracked the winds of change during the Movida Madrileña counter-culture in post-Franco Madrid. There's a hazy, woozy, cosmic fuzz sizzling palpably over the swaggering bass guitar and rolling, relentless kicks. It's real heady, shoegaze material. If ‘Flagelantes’ whips dancefloors into shape, 'Tacha' hypnotises them into submission. 

Two wholly different techniques and concepts, but the same result: complete dancefloor escapism. Just how Darkrooms Dubs like it. Stay tuned.

Premiere: Oscar Escapa, Linear Phase - Recoded [Drumcode]

Speaking Minds return to Aeon with their first EP on the label, after a remarkable appearance as remixers on Dodi Palese’s ‘Black Drop Effects’.

This release starts off with ‘JSB’, a captivating and hypnotic affair enhanced by perfectly crafted delayed synths creeping out of the background. The constant darkness in harmonies and pads takes the listener through a brilliantly thought out progression and leaves them wanting for more after this 9-minute trip ends.

‘Yaoundé’ continues on this melancholic vibe, while bringing forward a more cinematic and even more chilling side from the Italian producers’ music. The main ambient lead develops beautifully, alongside many synth harmonies, and offers a contrast with a pushing drum section. This track is reduced to its essence, with crisp shakers and hi-hats bringing a drive to the intense atmosphere created by numerous harmonic layers.

Closing off this EP, ‘Paradise’ features a drunken melody evolving all through the track; a hook that is celverly completed by a pad halfway through. The arrangement, natural and flowing, makes every element of this trip shine, from the discrete chords in the background to the main synth line.

Speaking Minds have truly spoken with their heart here. This is a collection of masterfully crafted tracks full of melancholy and passion. Prepare to be taken aboard this cinematic trip...

Alex Niggemann’s forward thinking label Aeon recently celebrated five years at the forefront of cutting edge music.
To k​ick off 2019, Kincaid makes his debut on the label: the EP is the first in a string of exceptional music to come this year.

The four track EP kicks off in style with ​On The Back Of A Serpent​. An Italo-tinged number with Kincaid's trademark live sounding drum programming. It’s an instant club rocker with trippy vocal snippets that draw the listener into an ethereal, spine tingling breakdown. ​Stare Into My Monstera begins with a driving groove and dissonant Rhodes, building subtly but relentlessly towards a euphoric Nord lead motif which reappears throughout. A track that will undoubtedly find favour with the discerning Burner crowd. ​Papoose starts with middle eastern influenced sounds and insistent Timpani accents, before locking into a groove which hypnotises and intrigues in equal measure. Finally ​It Said (feat. Sinàl) is a darker affair featuring the sinister vocals of both Kincaid and Sinàl themselves. A ‘lights off / strobe on’ growler, this is one for fans of late night trippy moments - and further displays the diverse number of styles which Kincaid is becoming well known for.

Kincaid may be a fresh face to many but those in the know will be familiar with his unique brand of diverse and genre bending sounds. Breaking through in 2018, notable highlights include a debut release on Moscoman’s Disco Halal and an EP on Sabo’s Sol Selectas plus a plethora of support from titans of the scene; Rampa and &Me, Jennifer Cardini, The Juan MacLean, Roman Flügel, all the way to Dixon and Âme, who opened their Innervisions show at London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall with his remix of Blancmange’s ​What’s The Time​.

Kincaid - On The Back Of A Serpent

AEON has been in musical rude health of late, with Speaking Minds, Amarcord, Lauer, Fort Romeau, Moscoman, Kincaid, Joris Beismans and label boss Alex Niggemann all bringing the heat. Now, continuing the high level of quality, up steps Israeli man of the moment Jenia Tarsol with two classy Italo influenced cuts on his 'Strom EP’.
The title track, ‘Strom' is a playful workout, featuring hypnotic low-end organs over a simple but irresistible groove which draws you in before a high-end organ motif adds a real element of light heartedness to the track with a melody that’s sure to get stuck in your head and bring a smile to all but the most chin stroking clientele.
‘Nosisi’ is a more serious affair but still retains Tarsol’s trademark drum programming and a dance floor friendly vibe. Hooky disco influenced Guitars are the order of the day here, used to subtle but devastating effect before whispered vocals add an etherial edge to the soundscape. Remix duties are fulfilled on this EP by Panthera Krause and Uriah Klapter. Krause leans yet more on disco flavours with his take on Nosisi, with a Moroder-like baseline locking the listener in early before a powerfully atmospheric breakdown delivers the ‘spine tingle’ moment. Klapter takes Strom down a more menacing path with industrial percussion elements dominating, before a driving baseline picks up the pace and the low- end organ makes its self known. 5am vibes a plenty on this moody groover.
All in all another stunning package from the in-form German label.
AEON take over Oosterbar in Amsterdam on October 19 for an ADE Special with Alex Niggemann, Fort Romeau, Jenia Tarsol, Speaking Minds and Kincaid.

Since Biesmans made his debut on AEON last year with his “A Long Road” EP, he has continued to build a profile and musical output that is both exciting and ground breaking. So it’s with great pleasure that we welcome him back to the label for his follow up EP “Top Gun”

Biesmans has decided to showcase two subtly different versions of the title track “Top Gun”. Version 1 is a stunningly produced lo-fi disco workout with nod to 80’s synth classics. A dynamic bass line underpins a delightfully simple but effective groove and delicious melodies. Version 2 is similar in it’s approach but is perhaps a little more strident. Biesmans said “I often make several versions of a track when I’m writing and then focus in on a particular version. In this case I couldn’t decide so I figured let’s release both!'
“Dr Electric” is a more melancholy in it’s approach, with a broken beat, subtle synths and vocodered vocals taking centre stage, with almost blissful prog rock leanings in places.

Remix duties are taken up by Permanent Vacation head honcho and AEON favorite Benjamin Fröhlich and Italian duo Phunkadelica.
Both have chosen to tackle “Dr Electric” and the results are sublime. Fröhlich’s approach stays closest to the original but employs a tougher breakbeat as the foundation for his version, borrowing heavily from the synth content before delivering a driving bass line to take the track into peak time territory. Phunkadelica’s more traditional progressive house style treatment serves up a more hypnotic mix with a galloping baseline and an ever evolving layered style that draws in the listener until a breakdown delivers the spin tingling moments.

Another perfectly balanced EP from the AEON crew with something to satisfy all palates.
