I think the sound of this one is fine (I'm the furthest thing from an audiophile anyway), but Double Nickels sounds fucking great, its one of my favorite sounding records of all time

"Turn on the News" was Robert Christgau's pick for best song of 1984 (its also the best song on the record, along with the Flipper-esque "Whats Going On" and the droney soul number "Standing by the Sea")

You guys were a little tough on "Turn On The News".  What an absolutely amazing, anthemic song and some of Grant's best vocals.  It is a little "classic rock", I suppose, but classic rock of the best kind.  The album is a masterpiece and it blows my mind how prolific they were during this time.  One song that doesn't get enough love is "Newest Industry" - incredible song and very forward looking.  It sounds more like a song that could have been on New Day Rising than it does other songs on Zen Arcade, in my opinion.

I started recording the piece at 4.25 in the morning, hence the title. And what I was trying to do was interact with the space through my voice and listening -- a kind of unheard intervention in the roar of the city, which even at this time of the morning is quite loud. I was working to blend my vocalizations with the environment, blurring the boundaries of what was being "performed" by me and what was being happening in the environment. An interaction which had perhaps more to do with listening as much with me making any sounds in reaction to the environment.
