Fantastic episode.  D. Boon is such a legendary figure that he's almost more myth than man at this point.  To have Linda on and really flesh out some humanity made me get a sense of his actual life.  Great job by you guys.  I've been an obsessive Minuteman fan since I first heard those tracks on The Blasting Concept, which I bought around 1986 when I was 13.  I had never heard the true story behind Boon's death, just that she had fallen asleep at the wheel.  It's a real lesson to always take what you hear with a grain of salt.  I can't imagine how frustrating it must be for her to have had the "fell asleep at the wheel" story circulated so much and so often and for so long that it's not possible to reel back in.  I did own the 'My First Bells' cassette.  I would bring it with me on school field trips and listen to it in my Walkman endlessly.  I listened to it so much that the tape eventually warped.  I have no idea what happened to it.

As far as Don Bolles - it IS "Bolles", "Boles" is a misspelling.  Although, Don Bolles isn't his real name to begin with.  But yeah - he's best known as being the drummer for the Germs, but he also played for Vox Pop, 45 Grave, and a bunch of others.  There's a Germs DVD that Cleopatra released in 2004 called 'Media Blitz', which features a lengthy Bolles interview on it.

I started recording the piece at 4.25 in the morning, hence the title. And what I was trying to do was interact with the space through my voice and listening -- a kind of unheard intervention in the roar of the city, which even at this time of the morning is quite loud. I was working to blend my vocalizations with the environment, blurring the boundaries of what was being "performed" by me and what was being happening in the environment. An interaction which had perhaps more to do with listening as much with me making any sounds in reaction to the environment.
