The Cover Mix: Joy Orbison

Hopping between Web2.0 and 3.0 like Hayden Christensen in Jumper, ealing produces music synthesised from the online absorption of faraway genres such as Southern trap, Chicago juke, Jamaican dembow and more. A granular petri dish, ealing combines disparate sounds, their DJ sets and production reflecting a diversity of listening that inspires smooth transitions from Aphex Twin to Young Dolph.

Ealing cut their teeth in the Meanjin / Brisbane scene, with sold-out shows at Super Whatnot and opening slots at Red Bull Music Academy. The move to Eora / Sydney saw the release of the HEARYOUCALLINGME EP, a palette of expertly articulated audio hieroglyphics, fitting as comfortably in a club as a Super Mario 64 water level. 6A63 / ICY WHITE, out on Deep Scan Technologies, reiterated their forward-thinking approach to music, a double A-side single exploring ambient and phonk.

Their singular approach to the fusion of electronic and hip-hop has found fans across the alt-spectrum, with support from Ninajirachi and Moonbase, plus plays on Rinse FM, FBi Radio and 4ZZZ. Live shows, remixes and ankle-breaking tracks ahead expand the Ealing Sonic Universe: bringing Internet-core to the dance floor.

Originally released by Musical Freedom, the instrumental edit of 19-year-old Oliver Heldens’ deep house smash ‘Gecko’ has become a staple in club sets for 2014, peaking at #2 in the Beatport chart and garnering support from the likes of Pete Tong, Danny Howard and Zane Lowe. 

The latest edit ‘Gecko (Overdrive)’, written and vocalled by Becky Hill during a late night recording session with MNEK, is being released by Parlophone’s vital new dance imprint FFRR. Initially written for another vocalist, Becky’s towering vocal on Gecko’s chorus was deemed the perfect fit and has already been coined the ‘Hottest Record in the World’ by Zane Lowe.
