This page started out as a showcase for an old jazz fusion outfit - Solaris - that I had back in the late 70s.  However, I've been adding more music that I've been recording recently just to use up the free space. Anyway, here's the blurb relating to that first band....
Back in 1979, drummer Mike Travis, who had recently returned to his hometown of Edinburgh after many years as a session-player in London teamed up with me (Jim Condie) on guitar to try to put together a jazz/fusion group which we decided should be called SOLARIS. We were very much into the sounds coming from the American West Coast at the time - from groups like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report, Return To Forever - and hoped to find the right musicians to create something along those lines.  After a couple of vain attempts, we were lucky enough to persuade a 23-year old keyboard wizard living in Dundee at the time - one Peter John Vettese - to come and play with us. WIth the addition of bass-player Bryan Sinclair our line-up was complete.  It turned out Peter was a prolific and highly original composer too, so much of our material was penned by him. Sadly, the band was a bit too 'far out' for Scottish audiences at the time and we only lasted about 9 months. However, in that time, we managed to record a 3 track studio demo and a 90 minute live set for Radio Clyde (produced by Andy Park). The cassette copy of this concert I have is in pretty poor shape, so I'm slowly trying to tidy it up before posting it here. 

Peter went on from this to join Jethro Tull, with whom he stayed for several years, tours and albums, before becoming one of the most sought-after producers and composers in the world. His work with the likes of the Bee Gees, Cher, Foreigner etc is legendary. Mike, who previously had worked with renowned Japanese percussionist Stomu Yamasht'a and with fusion group Gilgamesh went on to play with Celtic fusion bands such as The Cauld Blast Orchestra and Clan Alba, and continued to work with me on many one-off projects. Bryan disappeared off to the USA where he still lives today, gigging around the Palm Springs area.  I went on to form the 10-piece Tam White & The Dexters with well-loved Scottish blues belter (the late) Tam White - one of the top Scottish Bluesbands of the '80s - and later toured and recorded with many well-known (in certain circles) American and Canadian artists.
