Mantrapuṣpam - With seemingly simple rhythmic and repetitive words, this mantra in fact conveys a much deeper symbolic message of the blossoming potency of the Supreme Truth. An extract from the Yajurveda, this mantra is a celebration of the true understanding of the source of the powers of the Moon, Sun, Wind, Fire, Rain, Time etc.

Mantrapuṣpam

The Nārāyaṇa upaṇiṣat unfolds the upāsana (meditative means) of reaching Nārāyaṇa and asserts that all humans, ṛṣi-s (visionary poets) and all beings are born from and resolve into Nārāyaṇa.

One cannot really think of poetry without Chandas or Metres. Chanda is as important as the speech world itself. It is an essential part of poetry and it is this part that makes poetry different from the prose. A Chanda or metre means ‘a fixed and balanced system of the measures of sound, matra’ It is the ‘ordered measures of the poetic spirit’ and is the ‘right physical basis for the poetic movement’. This lecture demonstration deals with various aspects of Chandas by presenting a true picture of Chandas and their deeper values. It explains the applicability of the Chandas by linking the study of Metrics with healing, with Nature, with Music, with the philosophy of creation etc.

Medha Sūktam from the Mahānārāyaṇa Upaniṣat. Only those persons who are blessed with the right intelligence by which they can wean themselves from the pleasure of useless and harmful talk achieve inner illumination. They alone devote their faculty of speech for receiving and communicating knowledge of the Supreme.

From the 7th Maṇḍala of the Ṛg Veda (recited Yajur Veda tradition) dedicated  entirely to the mantras of Ṛṣi Vaṣiṣṭha, Bhāgya Sūktam is a morning mantra also known as prātaḥ sūktam or morning hymn. Let us call Bhaga, who is strong and victorious, powered by all that is true, right and good to come and displace ignorance and all falsehood in us. 

Bhaga has a wealth of Truth, come and manifest for us the knowledge and energy for this Truth. May the dawn bring to us Bhaga.

This mantra features the famous words Bhagavān and Bhagavantaḥ, used to signify the supreme person in later times, especially in the Bhakti literature.

The Śrī Sūktam is one of the more popular Vedic hymns, used extensively in ritual worship in temples and homes as well as a sādhana, or daily meditative practice of recitation for tuning into the energy of Lakṣmī, who stands for all that is beautiful, gracious and enriching in man and his surroundings.

Śri Suktam is now included in the Ṛg Veda, but is considered a pariśiṣṭa sūkta or a khila sūkta (an appendix) to the 5th Manḍala. Therefore, you will find in this hymn various possibilities for svara (idamittham) My recitation follows the teachings of my Guru from Trayee Veda Vidyalaya in Bangalore.
