Just a homage to one of my favourite producers Richard Blair aka Sidestepper. Sometimes not credited I feel for being light years ahead of all the johnny-come-latelys to the tropical music scene (myself included). He's been making great progressive music with Colombian musicians since the mid-nineties. I can't make it available for download I'm afraid...the original is beautifully restrained and minimalist but I just wanted to try to add beats for DJ sets.

Nidia Gongora’s legendary roots ensemble Canalón de Timbiquí  brought together three generations of pacific jungle marimba de chonta music masters together for their most ambicious record to date: De mar y río.

Tio Guachupesito written by Antero Agualimpia is an anthem throughout the pacific coast of Colombia, a deep and sweet musical treasure that can be heard amongst afro descendent communities from (north to south) Nuquí to Tumaco. Canalón de Timbiqui’s version takes us to the core of Timbiqui’s religious syncretysm. Lead singer Nidia Gongora’s astonishing opening closes with a mighty statement that serves as a calling for the full ensemble to burst into an enchanting roots music celebration: 

En el cielo pintan santos, yo también quiero pintar
Pintaron un santo negro y hoy lo vamo' a celebrar

(Saints are being painted, I want to paint too
A black saint was finally painted and we are going to celebrate)

Llorona Records y Fondo Acción presentan: Tio Guachupesito, primer sencillo del esperado nuevo disco de  Canalón de Timbiquí  De Mar y Rio, que será lanzado el primer semestre del  2019.

Tio Guachupesito, compuesta por Antero Agualimpia, es un tesoro de la tradición del Pacífico Colombiano con diferentes interpretaciones que se escuchan desde Nuquí hasta Tumaco. En la versión de Canalón de Timbiquí, la canción embruja desde el inicio con la estremecedora voz de Nidia Góngora que, acompañada de la marimba, nos lleva a lo más profundo del misticismo Timbiquireño.

Este verso da entrada al ensamble completo que a ritmo de Aguabajo  nos deja claro porqué el grupo liderado por la cantora es uno de los representantes más respetados de la música de marimba del Pacífico colombiano. Tradición, raíz, selva, mar y río hechos música desde Timbiquí Cauca.
