This morning I am delighted to spend more time with David Poltrock and his music. He is not completely new to my ears, as I have previously enjoyed and covered his piece with Adriaan de Roover, titled "44,2 km". Today I am premiering a track titled "Titanus Giganteus", taken off his upcoming release Aulus I, which, as I hope you can guess from the album title, is part of the diptych of two instrumental works, with the Aulus II coming out later in the year. It seems that we're all mesmerised these days [at least in my circle of musician friends] with sounds originating from strings, piano, tape, and light electronics. But even if the ingredients are all the same, it is the flavour of the dish that is important. In this case [as is the case with all of my previous musings on sound], it is the emotion behind each piece and the composer's ability to communicate and transfer that emotion into mine. It seems so simple, yet it's not. And if the musician truly accomplishes this task, then the ingredients don't matter. It could be just a piano. It could be just strings. It's great when each one has a place in the story. This is what I think about [and what I feel] when I listen to Poltrock's music. And that's the greatest compliment of all. For this piece, which is a rework of his previous original track, "Titanus" (Machines, 2018), Poltrock starts with the lofi piano and brings in the strings performed by Sun*Sun*Sun String Orchestra for a dynamic, intimate and soaring composition that wonderfully conveys the sound on his album as a whole. Beautifully sculpted, executed, and received.

Since I first started creating and releasing music back in 2015, I've had loads of fun experimenting with virtual orchestral instruments. One of my main composing objectives while using these instruments has been to try and paint vivid cinematic soundscapes that evolve and inspire - 'Rain Shelter [2017]' is my first instalment of works in this style. 

Ever since then, I have created tons of orchestral/ambient works that live in a similar space. Some of which made their way into projects such as "Sketches of an Old Soul [2023]" and "Cloud Fields [2023]" - But even so, there were a few core ideas (started back during my 2015 exploration phase) that never made it to the point of completion. At long last, "Above the Sky [2025]" eventually rose from the aether and acted as the shining motivation needed to finish the unfinished. The results are a marvellous culmination of cinematic vibes built across years of musical sketching and experimenting, now here to delight your ears.

Released on my 30th birthday, and to mark a decade of writing music professionally - may you enjoy this collection of music.

This album is designed as a sonic journey through the 7 energetic centers of spiritual power within the human body known as the Chakras. Tracks 1-7 correspond with chakras 1-7, starting with the root chakra at track 1, working up to to the crown chakra at track 7. Track 8 is a full body energetic integration. 

The act of using sound as a mode of achieving altered states of consciousness and conscious transport is probably older than humanity itself. There is something familiar about entraining to the sound of a drone, as though it reminds us on some deeper level of forgotten parts of ourselves that are timeless and infinite, and reminds us of where we come from before we come into this physical reality, before we come here and are assimilated into whatever cultural beliefs we are born into and take on as our truths and our way of living...while forgetting the truth of our infinite nature.

Working with the sound of musical drones is something that I am doing a lot these days in my Sound Healing Journeywork workshops. In music, a drone is an extended harmonic or monophonic accompaniment where a note (or a chord) is continuously sounded throughout a piece of music. Crystal singing bowls function quite perfectly as drones when they are played in a way that allows their tones to ring out continuously, which is why I believe so many people love the sound of singing bowls and love the experience of a meditation accompanied by them. This type of sound and it's effects on us are familiar, it itches at that hidden part of ourselves, the deepest essence of who we truly are, the part of  us left hidden behind the veil as we've entered into this 'physical reality' hologram.

Adam Maalouf’s 2019 record “Path of Time” is a musical exploration combining traditions of world music with modern electronics. Maalouf builds a foundation for the album with supporting instrumentals of pantam, cello, electric guitar, marimba, piano, world percussion, electronics, and synthesizers. This record features vocals by Hannah Sumner, Apoorva Mudgal, and Mariam Abuamer. The title track “Path of Time” is an adaptation of words from Lebanese poet Khalil Gibran. Other tracks include “Land of the Beloved”, a re-imagining of the Arabic traditional “Balad il Mahboub” by the prominent Egyptian composer Mohammed Abdel Wahab, a jam-worthy version of the Punjabi folk song “Chori Chori”, as well as original instrumental pieces by Maalouf.
