The Theory Therapy series hits number 30 with a genre-dissolving mix from producer and sound artist Adam Dove, best known as Nexcyia. Adam is currently based between London and Paris, and over the last year or so, his shape-shifting brand of electronic music has been picked up on labels including Cafe OTO, Alien Jams and Cherche Encore.

Adam's mix drifts between ambient, illbient and dubby textures, and features tracks from a bunch of other artists we’re also big fans of, including OL, Igor Dyachenko and Mistareez. It’s marked by many of the same qualities that distinguish his own music: undulating rhythms, operatic synths and disintegrating noise, plus some very well-executed left turns. Adam probably sums this one up best when he says: “This mix is a little different than the other ones.” Dive in below.

Having a Libyan mother and a Syrian father, Bader spent his youth between Benghazi & Damascus. He grew up listening to Libyan Tagaza Majrouda rhythms and Syrian classical music. His brother DJ Khalil was one of the pioneers in the MENA region who fused his musical heritage with hip hop beats. As a youth Bader was always passionate about art, especially visual arts. When Bader moved to Belgium he studied photography and became a videographer and visual artist, working for numerous artists & brands. Through his work as a digital content creator for Voem, he started curating Yalla World wide events in Ghent; bringing the cream of the crop of the alternative MENA music scene to Belgium: artists as 3Phaz, Toumba, Muskila, Cheb Runner, Asifeh, Renata and Big Murk. At the same time Bader started dj’ing and producing music with Yalla Soundsystem together with his colleague Acid Ponch. His sound can be described as a symbiose between east and west: bass heavy patterns merge with his own musical heritage from the MENA region. One thing’s for sure: Bader kills dancefloors without any compromise. Yalla Soundsystem has a residency and hosts a monthly radio show on the Paris based channel Radio Flouka.

On top of that, the military actions threaten the lives of the remaining hostages in the Gaza-Strip, and even more innocent people in Gaza.

In May, longtime Vief collaborator halle o’malley got in touch with an idea. She’d come across the Instagram of a 17-year old Palestinian musician called Samih, who’s life has been torn apart as a result of Israel's recent onslaught on the Gaza strip. Their home destroyed, Samih and his family were forced to flee to a refugee camp in Rafah. During their displacement, Samih has gone viral posting videos of himself singing and playing a borrowed oud.
 
Having spoken to Samih and received his blessing, Halle planned to sample a video of his and donate the proceeds from the sales of that track to a GoFundMe set up for him and his family. Halle approached the label with the idea of scaling this project up by inviting other producers to sample Samih themselves or provide original tracks of their own.
 
Madhoun now stands as a compilation containing four productions sampling Samih, an interlude, and nine other dance tracks generously donated by producers from across the world.

Artist: 
Shokunin is a DJ and producer based in London, and co-founder of the ambient label and arts collective BONSE1. His production draws on his textured, ambient influences  -  dipping into deep, meditative states whilst simultaneously stepping in and out of hypnotic, percussive grooves.

Bambounou is one of the stalwarts of the French scene, but not everyone knows that the Paris-based DJ and producer actually has Polish roots and is a resident of Tama club in Poznań. Following his great drum experiments on DISK and Whities, he came to Kraków for his first ever b2b with Lutto Lento. The bold Polish producer and DJ plays truly eclectic sets and is known for his idiosyncratic productions, breaking the barriers between disparate genres. This mix - recorded at the Unsound 2019 opening party - is almost 200 minutes long, giving both artists enough time to explore all the sounds they're passionate about, from different types of club music to French and Polish rap. @bambounou @luttolento
