"SHEAHAN DRIVE recordings," is a name for Gus Franklin's composition, sound & music works.  I also do music production, mixing and mastering work under this name.  It's also a label to release the recordings i work on, with the general theme being; 'music from the ether...with folk themes and stories of Australiana.'  

I chose to use the name SHEAHAN DRIVE in 2005, after visiting a cast-iron piece of sculptural art in the form of a giant sign on the side of two roads around the small NSW town of Gundagai.  The sign creates an iconic, silhouetted image on the sky and surrounding landscape, and was an image that struck a chord with me and my relationship to that area, and the Australian landscape as a whole. It seemed to me at the time to be some kind of beacon and encapsulation of the themes and ideas i felt and wished to explore in music about the ancient heart of Australia, the (sometimes)dark and undeniably magical spirits in the landscape, and the effect of the country on all who inhabit it, or pass through.

In 2008, after carrying out a 3 month North American residency in the island community of Anacortes, I needed an artist name under which to release the resultant album i had created there.("small town tales of mythical PORTACORTES").  Not wishing to use my own name, i chose the SHEAHAN DRIVE moniker to represent this album and my performances of songs from it.
