In this bio about the new Dim Garden - A Dauntless Sprite Descends (Album) we are not going to define the concept of this musical jewel, since each of the selected tracks is a part of the astral journey in the enchanted forest of Dim Garden in The Hague. Choose the door from which you want to start the Album and you will have a different and mystical experience.

Close your eyes...can you feel it? giant mushrooms and animals running alongside us while they wink at us, so that we can continue to enter the forest while some magicians with giant long beards are playing synthesizers in the treetops in the light of the Moon.

When we believe that we have completed the entire forest, a giant light appears from the bottom of the forest and all the animals go towards it, to pay their respect. One of the Forest Gods of Dim Garden appeared... the white wizzard named ''Legowelt'' with a super magic remix and his fast paced take on the track ''Visions of Love'' and all his synths around him.
The housekeeper of the Forest is Jentlemen with her Remix of ''Na Mata''. Without realizing it, you have already been absorbed by the essence and atmosphere of Dim Garden... Open your eyes... or was it just a dream?

Next up in Veyl’s ever-evolving and diverse catalog comes of an experimental sonic experience from Llimbs. The project of Hagen Ebejer, he began making music in the early 2000’s and started Llimbs in 2016, which allowed him to officially release music and perform live, making his debut at Berlin’s legendary Tresor. Now he arrives on Veyl with Midnight Amber, an 8-track album which fully realizes the Llimbs sound and vision. 

Inspired by dark and experimental sounds, Midnight Amber is a tour de force of genre-bending compositions, conjured using downtempo and dreamlike sounds which explore both the organic and digital. The result is an undefinable affair which is both haunting and infectious at once. 'Unfold' commences the album with a soft yet powerful piece of melodic melancholy, inviting the listener through the gates and into the world of Llimbs. 'Divergent' picks things up with a ritual work of stirring chants which leads us to the evocative chords on 'Origin'. Finishing off side A is 'Absent', a slow burning rhythmic piece which encapsulates the listener, creating an almost nostalgic atmosphere for a time unknown. 

'Phase' begins the B side with cinematic flair, creating a palpable tension which then evaporates into the ether. 'Eclipse' returns to a familiar dreamworld, traversing the skies which feel both familiar yet mysterious before 'Fragment' dives deeper into a hidden universe of emotion, fusing ancient works with modern technology. Concluding the album is 'Midnight', a perfect end to a journey which exists at the intersection of the natural and mechanical, reality and surreality, marking a tremendous finale which can only lead to a new beginning.

Echoes From Two Worlds

Since I started with field recordings, I’ve been fascinated by the contrast between two completely different soundscapes: natural and human-generated ones.

At the beginning of the process, I was pretty sure to record and use only natural sounds, because, you know, for me, it’s a kind of ritual when I need to be detached from the day-to-day life. I want to be completely immersed in a natural environment to understand which type of sound I could use during the production process with the field recordings I’m capturing.

This time, something different clicked in.

I was walking in the city centre of my hometown just doing some basic commissions. At a certain point 3 “sound scenes” captured my attention: a busker, some church bells and a guy selling fruits in a market.

From normal sound perceptions, you usually don’t pay attention to this kind of day-to-day situation, but here, something was, I don’t know, connected.

Everything was perfectly aligned and in tune. I found these 3 sounds similar to what I usually listen to in a wood: birds singing, the wind hitting the trees and rain.

I don’t know why, but something clicked and I had to record everything and build artificial sounds around this kind of soundscapes.

"Echoes from two worlds” is conceived within a concept around the sound of nature and human-generated sounds and how they can sometimes be completely different and in contrast with each other, but at the same time have a recurrent pattern that cannot be ignored.

The idea within this album is to maintain the organic sounds of field recordings with a digital touch using pads and other harmonic sounds.

It seeks to access a deeper sonic dimension where the listener can immerse in a different perception of what we usually hear and try to focus our listening on the dialogue between us and the soundscapes that surround us.

In this first work we also wanted to include a 3rd vision on these tracks and we’re thankful to have 3 remixes of three great artists and friends that joined this sonic experience with us.

The fourth release on Valentino Mora’s label, IDO, comes from a fresh, young French producer, Olorun. Olorun began making dark, atmospheric techno as Abrial, releasing 3 EPs under this guise, before directing his focus to explore the textured, minimal, and ambient musical aspects that have always fascinated him. As his approach became more contemplative, he began exploring different moods and a “sweetness and a kind of purity in music.” Through stepping back to examine the subtlety of texture, Olorun’s attention to natural landscapes increased. This encouraged him to name his new, more sensitive project ‘Olorun’; a personification of the natural elements in Santeria’s religion.

Considering Olorun’s affinity with the the natural landscape, it is understandable how the graphic work of Atif Akin on Moruroa’s Crack would provide the inspiration behind the productions that would become Moruroa EP. Conflicting emotions arise when considering the beauty, as well as the destruction, of Moruroa’s Crack, a site devastated by nuclear tests during the cold war. Olorun responded to these feelings through his interpretation of a “journey through the different islands of the archipelago.” Olorun invites the listener to reflect on the always conflicting relationship between humans and their environment.

Moruroa EP is an abstract research characterised by textured layers that form a hybrid construction between organic percussions and atmospheres, and synthesised sounds that remind the listener of humanity’s - often destructive - entanglement with nature. The first track of the A side, Yuki, is a mystical, experimental piece layered with tribal percussions that evoke the Pacific landscape while hints of uncertain mechanical sounds question humans use of nuclear testing in this peaceful environment. The deep and hypnotic atmosphere in Kodo is likely to induce an euphoric, meditative state on the dance-floor. On the B side, Moruroa is also one for the dance floor; a downtempo cut, with deep grooves and atmospheres that will transport the listener directly to the lush forests of the titles namesake. The final track, Tuamotu begins with indistinct voices, hinting perhaps at the secrecy behind the atomic tests at Moruroa. Hopeful drones coupled with soft, expectant percussions, elicit an air of mystery that leaves the listener desiring. Overall, Moruroa EP, has a captivating and intriguing energy that maintains the deep, meditative and spiritual identity IDO has carved for itself.
