EPM.193 comes from JAK. Jack Coleman (JAK) is a pioneer of the Pacific Northwest U.S. techno scene, recognized as a prolific artist, producer, label boss, event organizer and community builder. As a producer, JAK has released more than 150 original tracks and remixes on labels like Northern Parallels, Trapez, Illegal Alien, and his own imprint, SubSensory Recordings. Now the revered producer and DJ joins the EPM Mix series, taking us into a dub-techno reverie. “As we enter the Pacific Northwest’s long gray and rainy season, I wanted to present something deeper and more introspective than my norm. This 83-minute mix, recorded in my Portland, Oregon studio, features a blend of dub techno and deeper techno sounds, recent finds and older selections and a few gems from my SubSensory label’s past and present.”

Over two-plus decades as a DJ, JAK has shared the stage with acts like DVS1, DJ Nobu, Richie Hawtin, Zenker Brothers, and Josh Wink. He’s performed ex-tensively in Portland and Seattle, and further afield in locales like Detroit, Min-neapolis, LA, SF, Tokyo, Vancouver, BC, and Santiago de Chile.

His D.Vices moniker, launched in 2021, has landed multiple #1 sellers in Beatport’s electro category. Beyond his work as an artist, JAK’s SubSensory event series and label, along with several online #PDXTechno communities, have helped shape the thriving techno scene that exists in Portland today.

SubSensory’s 127th release features the modern, dub techno-inspired sounds of Justin Neal’s Refractions EP, with a remix by UK producer Sergio Vilas.

Nuremberg 2003 – A Mix Between Departure and Feedback

November 2003.
I had just moved to Nuremberg — leaving behind familiar Bayreuth and stepping into the unknown. New city, new people, new frequencies. The old order faded, while unexpected doors began to open.

Some important people stayed behind — their voices still echo in my mind. But others entered my life: open, wild, curious souls. People from the Stereo de Luxe scene, who made the nights sound different — looser, jazzier, freer.

I remember one legendary evening at the Stereo de Luxe Club, during the Nuremberg Jazz Days. I played alongside Bernd Rösler, and the room vibrated — beautiful humans dancing their hearts out, forgetting everything else. For a few hours, Bayreuth was just a distant thought, somewhere between smoke, light, and bass.

When I listen to this mix now, I can still hear that moment — the sound of transition, not yet knowing where it leads, but already smelling of the future.

Maybe you can hear it too.
Maybe you can feel what change sounds like.

Biography: 
Anchoret has been a driving force in the techno scene for over two decades. With a passion for electronic music that dates back to his teenage years, Anchoret quickly rose to prominence as a talented DJ and producer.

With a sound that draws inspiration from dub techno, jacking house, and soulful house, Anchoret has stayed true to his soul. He’s well-known for his energetic and dynamic sets that keep dance floors packed, and has earned a reputation as one of Pittsburgh’s most exciting techno DJs.
Over the years, Anchoret has also made a name for himself as a producer, releasing a string of well-received tracks and remixes that have been played and supported by some of the biggest names in techno.

Monomood - The Scientist [Needledrums]

Monomood was born in a small village near to Dresden in the mid 80thies. Since more than 10 years he lives in Berlin. As an artist he is difficult to categorize. What is it? Techno? House? Drum and Bass? Or maybe Dubstep? What about a quantum Funk or Ambient? Well, actually, it’s always a bit of everything – but it’s always new and fresh. It is hard to find the leitmotif, and yet there is one: quality. After dwelling on the Drum and Bass station for a while, it is most accurate to say Monomood has taken off into the future: the wide cosmos of dubby Techno sounds. His vinyls on Etui Records, carry us into the complex world of echoed chords and spacy Delays as well as dark techno vibes.
