WAIFU is a queer party in Tokyo that aims to be an intimate, safer space designed to be enjoyed by all kinds of open-minded people, regardless of gender, sexuality, race or age.

This month's guest is DJ and producer mamekx from Nagoya with a 2-hour extremely danceable, tastefully leftfield mix. A record enthusiast spinning a wide variety of genres, she is the founder of home listening podcast series Melty FM66.6 and has provided mixes for Block FM and HKCR. Her productions explore the fusion of contemporary art and electronics by combining traditional Japanese instruments, ambient sounds, and synthesizers. Recently, she composed music for the 2022 Aichi Triennale.

In this mix, I've combined elements of monooto, ambient, collage, noise and improvisation, using both digital and traditional instruments to evoke an awareness of the sounds of surrounding objects, nature, and human presence. Sound and music serve as a small window, allowing the unconscious to emerge quietly.

For this mix, I selected some beautiful tracks that were released during the pandemic—(most likely) produced in Japan. While I feel a bit uneasy about drawing a simple connection between COVID-19 and ambient music, I put this together as a way of recalling the many experiments and explorations that were happening at that time.
(The mix title reflects the release period of the tracks featured.)

今回のミックスではコロナ禍にリリースされた（おそらく）日本で制作された素敵な楽曲を選んでみました。コロナとアンビエントっぽいものを安易に結びつけるのもモヤっとしますが、あの時期にいろんな試みが行われていたことを思い出しつつ作成してみました。

My selection is focused on the worlds of ambient, electroacoustic and field recordings.
