It would seem that each day a new record label is born, many of them sound the same, the repeated ideology of music as part of a continuous loop. However, it is always refreshing to see a dynamic approach being taken as part of a labour of love. The Astromagnum project isn't focused on branding, trendy subcultures or anything of the likes. It's focus remains on the squeaks, squawks and soundscapes of electronic music and all of it's modular geekiness and glory.

There is little left to be said about Maurice Fulton. By this point he is now known as arguably one of the most experienced and talented disc jockeys of a generation and has been essential to the expansion of club music and its culture over the last thirty years. His sound sees him tastefully blend funk, soul and eclectic disco selections alongside modern day house and dance music in a manner which most will never be able to achieve. Championed by leftfield scenes and house music aficionado's alike. Next weekend he will take to the stage at Farr festival who we have been lucky enough to collaborate on to gather this incredibly exclusive mix.

Beginning in the south, the Bruce Trail hugs the ancient shoreline of Lake Iroquoia as it follows the edge of the Niagara Escarpment. The Path, over its lengthy journey, winds its way through a landscape of natural beauty as it moves up to central Ontario. 
As the Trail leads further into the depths of the woodland and Ravine, sunlight falls through layers of evergreen branches stamping intricate patterns on the forest floor. Continuing north, the Trail passes an array of plants and wildlife native to the historic forest. Vivid colours saturate the forest canopy, complimented by the sounds of the cascading waterfall echoing through the Ravine. In the distance a carpet of gently waving fern cover the rolling hills dotted with slow-growing centuries-old coniferous trees that reach towards the sun.
At the home stretch of the escarpment you will be offered stunning views of the Peninsula, with the calm blue water of the western end of Lake Ontario reaching out to the lush greens of the temperate rainforest. This is the journey of the Bruce Trail.

Time was of the essence to all who knew, the drought could be punishing for so many who lived in the plains. A crushing thirst was the point break of many a man. The trees blew in the breeze as he looked out upon the sprawling fields. They lay dry, empty and bare: a golden brown mist blowing between the straw. It had not rained in weeks. 
Ron Basejam returns to release on Futureboogie as he delivers two tracks as part of 'The Carrington Spirituals' EP. Dancefloor orientated, club driven tracks.

Kenton Slash Demon - Peace (Lone Remix)

Crossover is a term which is used far too regularly for our liking. There are few who can truly be said to have breached the divide. However Shuya Okino is one such artist who has earnt his title as a true pioneer of the crossover. Blending a fusion of disco, jazz and house he is a Japanese pioneer of dancefloor music and as one half of the Kyoto Jazz Massive has been crucial in spreading his vision throughout the country and beyond. Championed by the likes of Gilles Peterson and Volcov amongst many others he now also finds himself as the mastermind behind The Room Club in Shibuya, Japan. This summer he will appear at Deboto festival in Croatia. Ahead of his appearance we asked him to contribute to our Wednesday mix series.

First to strut down this week’s Debut red carpet is Moscow-born, Tokyo-based Phil Gerus. Having already supplied the goods to George Fitzgerald’s ManMakeMusic, Jazzanova’s Sonar Kollektiv and Kerri Chandler’s Madtech Records — the beat whiz has undoubtedly got some solid backup.

Enter "Why All The Questions?", plucked from Phil's upcoming 12” Pleasures and Pains EP and continuing to stir his cauldron of cassette pop, house, soul, R&B and funk. The track harks as a bonafide eighties throwback — funky bass stabs, soulful vocals and that quintessential eighties synthesiser sound all combine to deliver some explosive DeLorean dynamite.

Pleasures and Pains is released through Lumberjacks Boogie on wax only.

Amongst Los Angeles County’s far-flung clusters is Long Beach, a music hub renowned for its urban bump swinging with West Coast soul. Bludwork emerges from this environment with Nightmare, his debut release on LA’s 100% Silk label, out September 30th. The tribe moved through the undergrowth with gracious ease. For years they had lived deep within the jungle, it had served them well but now it was under threat from new civilisation. The manticore had hoped never to have to move with the times, they had their ways, the rest of the world had another rule book. Now, on the ground, they had to dig deep, keep moving and join as one with the leaves and trees that surrounded them. They would escape from this mess, it would simply take time. 

Machete Savane releases on Not An Animal making up the labels fourth release. He is remixed by the talent that is Jonny Nash who is previously known for his music on Melody As Truth and the Japanese label Snaker.

With a classical music background mixed with a love for synths and drum machines, his sets mix up disco, techno and the slow chunky acid that the region is becoming home too. Here's a mix he's recorded for us, and he answers a few questions, just so you can get to know him a little better.
